Finally assembled my keycaps and switches. First keyboard incoming. Really hesitating between the GMMK Pro and the Keychron Q1 (I'd wait for a rotary encoder version). Which would you recommend? I'm going for a work/silent build (silent alpacas) + KAT PBT keycaps. Not intending on lubing or replacing the stabilizers for my initial build.
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
Hey - I haven't tried a Q1 so I can't give you any recommendations between the two. The GMMK Pro is good for the price (and form factor), however I think keyboards like the KBD67lite sound better and are cheaper (if you can get away with the smaller form factor). What did you end up getting?

@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
If it's shipped I would imagine it will only be a few days. I'm not sure how Glorious is handling their other batches though, so it's probably best to confirm with them. If you have a tracking number though I wouldn't think it'll take too long.

great video! Just barely dipping my toes in the water in the custom mechanical keyboard world & ughhhhh, i can't decide if i want to go with the KBD67 Lite or the GMMK Pro :( GMMK Pro seems a little easier to put together and go, but I've heard SO MANY people rave about the KBD67 Lite. Primary use is gaming. Any recommendation between the two? Also other than red switches (for gaming) is there any alternatives i should be looking at?
@PatrickRennie2 жыл бұрын
IMO go with KBD67lite. Great keyboard, good acoustics, won't break the bank.

I can't shake the feeling that a lot of the plastic cases sound better than the full metal cases like the GMMK PRO. There's this very slight but apparent metal ping in pretty much every sound test I've listened to.
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
There are some pretty amazing plastic boards that have an excellent sound out right now - while sound preference is subjective, I tend to agree with you there
@winitypes3 жыл бұрын
What do you mean on your "no foam/screws removed" sound test? Thanks for this informative video about GMMK PRO
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Some people have been experimenting with removing foam from the board or removing some of the middle standoff screws for a more flexible typing experience. This review was intended to be everything stock, or as the keyboard was shipped. Hope that helps!

I think C³equalz and DuRock stabs will have a tight fit with the aluminium plate.
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
It wasn't even possible for me to make the Durocks work with the alu plate, and pretty tight even with the polycarb. Hopefully something that Glorious updates in the future.
@dainese013 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that c3 equal fit into the stock plate without modification to the plate
@jasonwyngaardt44003 жыл бұрын
I picked one up too but I wanna put Durock V2's in. Could I file the alum plate a bit to make it fit?
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
Definitely. Alternatively you could file the sides of the stab housing down too. It doesn't sound like the issues I had with the alu plate are universal, because I think BadSeedTech was able to get his aftermarket stabs to work with the alu plate so definitely give it a try first. Hope that helps!
@RazorIance3 жыл бұрын
@@PatrickRennie What I did was file the plate slightly with a narrow polishing tip on a dremel tool (mainly because I was scared of breaking the stab lol) and then rub some lube on the outside of the stab housing and the edge of the mount to help it go in
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
@@RazorIance Thanks for sharing! I would give that a try but I don't have access to a dremel right now. I think I'm going to swap back to polycarbonate regardless though.
@RazorIance3 жыл бұрын
@@PatrickRennie Do you see a significant difference with the polycarb plate especially in terms of feel and would you recommend it? I didn't order it with the rest of my build because I wanted to see if the alu plate could get the job done. I didn't notice a huge diff in your sound test (alu sounded a bit deeper which is odd since Glorious says poly should sound deeper than the others) and I suppose I won't fully know until I try it in person with my exact setup but I'd love to hear your thoughts.
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
At the moment, I think the polycarb plate is worth it for me because it will allow me to use third-party stabilizers without doing any sort of filing of the plate. I agree though that there wasn't much of a sound signature change between the two plates (in the GMMK Pro stock configuration). I'm working on the follow-up video to the review as we speak, so stay tuned with my full thoughts on mods in the next couple of weeks :)

what is the overall price if you only get the barebones keyboard and reserve it in the flex batch

Pretty sure it's still $170USD, but I would advise reaching out to Glorious to confirm.

Hey - i just got this keyboard .. I took the keyboard apart in order to get rid of some lube on the overlubed stabilizers - as soon as i put back the keyboard and plugged it in, 2 LEDS won’t work. Do you have any idea as to why? I’ve never seen anyone with this problem, and I barely even touched it…..
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
Did they work beforehand? There should be a small reset button on the PCB that you can press to see if that resolves your issue. Otherwise shoot an email to Glorious customer support - I've found them to be very helpful in the past. Hope that helps!

Is kbd lite67 better than GMMK ? In your opinion
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
Yes - KBD76 Lite has been my daily driver for months. I like that it's lighter, better sound profile and the stabs out of the box are just worlds better than the GOAT stabs that come with the Pro.

Hot swap beginner friendly? I think it’s strange that anyone would have to solder keys on a board. If that was the case I would only use pre built or just the $20 type from Walmart
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
I think if you really like switches and don't think you'll change them, I think it's worthwhile to solder - you can sometimes have connection issues with hot-swap in the long term.

@@PatrickRennie oh I have never run across connection issues but it's possible

Allowing the pcb to flex improving the gasket mounting system or removing the foam just made it sound WORSE, it made it feel and sound hollow and plasticky. I really dont think it is designed to be flexible acoustics wise
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
It certainly has it limitations acoustically - I ended up making my GMMK Pro a fully silent build which I'm currently pretty happy with.
@BigJosher.3 жыл бұрын
i was gonna get this but the fact its silver/grey and not white as they have it branded as honestly threw me off it.....
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
It certainly was a bit misleading, I'll give you that. Makes sense though as making any metal board white adds more cost overall. Maybe they'll make some additional colour options in the future!

I hope the entire community realizes that there is no sound test to be had when using linear or tactile switches. It is just a plastic-on-plastic noise lol. Such a stupid trend.
@PatrickRennie3 жыл бұрын
I mean, agree to disagree but I think tactile/linear/clicky switches certainly sound different when putting them in different boards with different plate and dampening combinations. GMMK Pro might not be the best example as linear vs tactile do sound pretty similar, but it's certainly not the case in all instances.
