I just know that they were an oil producer in the past. And I'm pretty sure that they have off-shore access just like we do in the Gulf and off Baja. Then there's fracking and shale, but I don't know how much shale are in their part of the Sierra Madres.

In school we learned that the US and other countries used to have right to the oil, and there was a big fight in the early 1938 and Mexico decided to nationalize it, this PEMEX for petroleos Mexicanos. There was no competition to PEMEX for decades until recently so people were at the mercy of whatever the government wanted to do. That’s how I understand it.

@@TheDuncanStudios2000 Battles aren’t wars, which is what you are referring to in your original comment. The battle of Cornwall ended up in a royalist victory. Britain and Prussia won the 7 years war, which resulted in the treaty of Paris and Habertusberg and Paris being signed in 1763, which saw Britain gain most of new French colonies in the Americas. War of independence is a bit more tricky, if that is what you are referring to with the “losing an entire fleet to farmers” comment. Those farmers were being supplied by the French (almost as bankrupted them), and quite frankly the American Colonies were far less important than territories in Asia and Africa simply because they had far more natural resources (if only they looked westward in the Americas) so Britain placed far less priority on reintegrating the US and focused on colonising elsewhere. In top of that, France was still being a pain in the ass so that also required attention in Europe.

it's one of the few benefits of being a dual citizen, you don't know how many times I've called out my local politicians for their shit only for them to not be able to do anything because I carry around an American passport and the number for the local Consular Agent, it's saved me from some of the shit that normally gets pulled on other lawyers and activists who weren't so lucky.

Last time Mexico City tried to elect a mayor that wanted to help depower the cartels, they sent troubleshooters the hour after her coronation and made her a better window than a door inside her brand new office in the capitol building. Like, they want them gone, but at this point the cartels have more power than the actual Mexican military and government and *really* don't like getting spanked and are willing to make it all of Mexico's problem if they start catching heat.

Fun fact: Mexico has oil. Mexico has a LOT of oil. The US imports all of its oil from Mexico and South America. Most oil is sent to the countries nearest to where it was pumped. I love explaining this to assholes who still think we went to Iraq for oil when we never got a drop of that oil. That all went to the surrounding area especially China.
