I was there that night and the commentator is right, the atmosphere was electric. I still get goose bumps when I watch this race. Bryan was a very good racer and a real nice bloke out of the race car. He always had time to autograph my program.

My brother Stan Vermeil drove midgets in the late 50s and early 60s. This brings back a lot of memories. I enjoy this racing much more than the modern version. Can't beat dirt track racing.

Sadly, Sherman Cleveland would lose his life on July 2 1966 at Calistoga Speedway driving a Sprint Car. RIP Sherman.

And a third of a mile long, a thing I was sorely disappointed about when the new Eastern Creek Speedway was built, was knowing that it would be just another quarter miler. I was bitterly disappointed with this decision, I really do think that East Coast Australia deserves a track, the same length at least the same length as the old Sydney Showground Speedway (as seen throughout the video) was. It truly is a travesty!! EDIT: - It was a track that was designed and built mostly, if not exclusively for Motorcycles.
