Hi mate. I just wanted to reach out to you to say thank you so much for sharing your knowledge here for us. The mere fact that you mention which grammage most photobook companies use saved me so much time and effort. That simple thing, that no one talks about, was enough for me to give you a thumbs-up and a subscribe. Thanks for making my day.

Am I arty-farty? I'll have to think about that. : ) The reason I like the uncoated paper is because I see glossy images all the time. Photos generally don't move me on an emotional level the way a painting might. The lack of gloss, glare, and reflection allows me, for me anyway, to enter the image, or to feel what it's tryjng to convey. Too much shine makes an image noisy(?). How do I hold the photo so it doesn't glare? The photo of the reclining Buddha(?) not only was the page shiny, but so was the statue, and then there was the orange wall. So much intensity. Those bright, crisp, contrasty colors are nice, but they also feel...too perfect, and static. Thanks for this video. I learned a lot about paper, and why I like what I like.
@AabhaKolarkar9 ай бұрын
this is all good until you have to publish it and make money out of it ig. it depends person to person. personally even i would like an uncoated finish but sometimes its better to go with what suits the book type than our own personal preferences.

If every company offered you a free photo book but you could only choose one, which company would you choose and what kind would you go with? I’m looking for archival, high quality prints and excellent construction of the book. Either a lay flat or flush mount with luster or matte. Probably a leather cover. The last thing I want to do is spend $500 on a photo book and have it come apart.

Quick question : Which is the longest lasting paper in your opinion? Have you ever noticed that any particular type of photo paper getting fused together in a photobook? I have two books from Adoramapix - they are fuji photo paper - high gloss and other one is luster. Last year I noticed that couple of pages within both of these book got fused together in small patches. It didn't go worse, may be because I open them once in few months to check. However I print photographs of my kids so it is important to me that the pictures look good for decades.
@PhotoBookGuru4 жыл бұрын
Hi, no, I haven't had that issue. Sticking paper can happen when there is too much moisture in the room or from pressure, if you stack photo book on top of each other. Acid free papers will last longest but that's just the paper. The ink has to last and not fade too and that's a whole other story.

Such an informative video, it has made me realize the depth of how poor quality the photobook is that I purchased from Photobook Canada, I went for Lustre paper but the outcome is sooooo rubbish, I am convinced there is no finish coating and the pages don't even stack up properly, they're uneven and wrinkled, the actual print is worse than a basic home printer!!! Just designing a photobook in Saal and silk paper is the most expensive. This video states that it's cheapest. What?
@pattip27886 жыл бұрын
I have to respectfully disagree, in terms of “high gloss” being the #1 choice. Most professional photographers choose a high quality matte, fiber or metallic. I rarely print my landscape images on high gloss. Sometimes I’ll use luster.
@pattip27885 жыл бұрын
MrZaZa3استاذ_زازع i’m certainly not a paper expert. I use Epson most of the time, simply because I have an Epson printer. I’m happy with ultra premium matte for most landscape prints. I can’t always afford the more expensive paper. However, I LOVE their luster paper for some landscape/nature prints! I just printed two shots I took in Yosemite on luster paper and they look awesome.
