When I got my ears pierced the woman who did it told me not to use alcohol because it will just irritate the wound, so I used saline and I used a cotton pad and moved the earring so it would get inside the piercing and around it. a tip for cleaning piercings from someone who has 15 of them!! put commercial saline solution or your own salt water mix into a small glass (like a shot glass) then dip wherever your piercing is into the bowl and hold it for 2-5 minutes. this way you don’t have to spray anything and have it drip down your body and it’s more gentle. this is optional, but you can rinse the area with regular water to make sure salt crystals don’t appear when the solution dries. pat dry with a microfiber cloth or tissue (avoid regular towels/terry cloth as these have little loops that you can snag a fresh piercing on). if you have a really bad case of crusties, you can gently use a q-tip, but otherwise try to avoid that because it can irritate the wound.
