Glowforge User Interface: Trace Feature Walk-thru

Thanks for the intro video on the Glowforge App Interface and the video on using Trace. I should have watched these several weeks ago. Would have saved me lots of confusion. I subscribed as well.

Can you show me how to use this basic Trace Function but instead of going straight to engraving and cutting, can you take those traces and make them into rubber stamps? I've seen other videos on the Trace and I've seen other videos on making rubber stamps but I haven't seen those functions combined.

How did it know to cut the edges?

You select what edges you want the choose either cut or engrave.

Curious about what you said at the end. What kind of “gasket material” have you cut? How did you know it was laser-safe? How did you determine the settings to cut it-just trial/error/sacrifice material? Thanks.

+Adam Goatfish I have cut them from neoprene rubber and cork sheet. To know if it’s laser safe I normally do a google search and/or look at the MSDS sheet. To determine the the right settings is just trial and error. I will be doing a video on determining cut setting shortly.

Can you use the sketch feature and just engrave and not cut? Also can you use other wood besides ply? Like say live edge wood?

Yes you can use sketch to only engrave, and you can engrave lots of things, leather, hardwood, glass, acrylic, slate and more.

Right on! I’m debating if I should get a glowforge. The only thing keeping me away at this point is the price. What model do you have/ recommend? Right now because of price I’m leaning toward basic because of price, but do you think the plus is worth it?

The only reason to get the pro would be if you had a need to do really long pieces with the pass thru slot or if you we planing on using it all day every day. I use my pro a lot for work and 95% of the time I’m sure the basic would be fine.
