Thank you for directing me to this video. Yes that is the same boiler that I own and I have had exactly the same problem, diagnosed and solved the same way. Its a pity you cannot remember why the other guy fitted a new gas valve assembly and pretty damning that he left the customer without a working boiler for such a simple problem no doubt after extracting the maximum £££ out if the customer. It is a pity that Gas Safe do not police this sort of activity and weed out the charlatans and incompetents.
@HeatingGeek5 жыл бұрын
The customer didn't pay anymore than their monthly premium. The engineer has since told me the gas valve wouldn't adjust but after he replaced it, it wouldn't light. The only issue is the customer left without HTG and HW.

@normanboyes49835 жыл бұрын
If you assess that as a 'pain' good job you are not exposed to real engineering problems.
@bobsempires5 жыл бұрын
@@normanboyes4983 Sure. In most instances, where gas quality is fine, these things last forever (best ive seen 10 years without maintanence). But in many specific cases where for some reason gas quality is bad i have to change/clean them every year or so. Pilot flame on big boilers is fine. However im questioning its design choice on smaller ones like junkers hidromax. Excess complication with many possible failiure points.
@normanboyes49835 жыл бұрын
RD Hey most guys when servicing boilers do not strip the pilot injector nozzle and clean it so with or without maintenance is the same situation. Of course the gas is always clean debris is introduced by new pipe installation.
@bobsempires5 жыл бұрын
@@normanboyes4983 Oh it's worse than that. :) First of all, 2 junkers floor boilers in cascade installed 14ish years ago, they ran it on LPG gas at start but then now they switched it to NatGas 2 years ago. The reason why I had to clean injector for pilot flame was because there was literally no other way, pilot flame was so small it would never touch Ionization electrode, even after switching electrode to new one it would still fail to recognize the flame. After blowing injector and copper pipe with compressed air it started running fine again (bigger flame, reached ionization electrode). I believe the reason why injector got clogged with gray residue is something related to the way copper pipes react with NatGas that boiler companies don't want to talk about. They (Or some unwanted additive) produce these gray flakes that sometimes heavily clog rough filters before gas regulator. Still have to wait to determine the root cause of clogs but if it happens once every 2 years then obviously something is wrong in gas piping or filtering. However there may be something Ive failed to check or missed.

Have one of these boilers and have worked on a lot of them over the years , this is a common occurrence. You have to be very careful how you disassemble the pipe especially if they have not been taken apart in a while ,they are very narrow and can shere around the olive .I have tried several methods to clean the pilot ,It seems a particular difficult one .The best results for me anyway is using a 12 volt tire compressor with the plastic cone shaped adapter cut down so it makes a good seal into the pilot injector This seems to work very well and there is no chance of reamering out the injector .The other common fault as the boilers get older is the PCB which usually shows as the boiler fan repeatedly stoping and starting. The other thing is I seem to remember a pilot restrictor that fits into the pipe at the valve end ,this can drop out when you are handling the pipe ,suspect that would show up straight away with the pilot picture. PS make sure you hang on tight to the injector when you start up the compressor!
@HeatingGeek5 жыл бұрын
The pins clean them out really well. You do have to be careful not to damage the injector when cleaning.

@johnboy12325 жыл бұрын
In the past I have tried boiling in a pan of hot water with not much success,The 12 volt compressor does work very well, I used a 12 v battery charger with male / female insulated connectors on both the outlet ends of the 12v side of the battery charger and the 12v wires going to the compressor .To make more portable for inside use. The other thing I used it for was clearing sludge blockages in microbore , disconnecting valve end from rad connecting suitable fittings and I had a piece of 8mm insertion tube that fitted tightly into the thumb valve of the compressor ,turn on the rad valve , turn on the compressor for 5sec ,then remove the end of the insertion tube into a bowl and with a bit of luck the sludge runs out , repeate if required. Of course there is a chance you push the sludge somewhere else but that never happened to me . Microbore is not as common today as it was in my time .but I can assure you this little dodge saved me hours and hours .very useful for where the microbore come off a 4 way inline manifold and sludge tended to settle blocking of the bottom tube.

I knew someone would eventually say that. I would think that too if I had done done it hundreds of times. British Gas allow their engineers to clean pilot injectors with a similar tool. Im not reaming it out. Just clearing the hole. If I refitted the injector and the flame was elongated I would replace the injector. This isn't making the hole any bigger, just clearing it. Give it a go. If it works, boiler fixed. If it doesn't boiler STILL broken. (nothing to loose) :-) Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)

HeatingGeek Thanks for your reply It’s not a criticism I really enjoy your videos your knowledge of electronics is 2nd to none And even after for 41 years in this industry I’m still learning but I’ve never felt the need to put any sort of object through an injector hole I just drop it in boiling water for a couple of minutes and then blow it through that seems to work without the risk of enlarging the whole Keep up the good work as a say you are a top engineer thanks

@@jamiemerchant3327 I didn't take it as a criticism. It exactly what I believed until recently. I haven't enlarged one yet but that may happen. I have never tried boiling water tbh. Tried air duster and WD40 but didn't find it very effective. I will try boiling water on the next one and see how it works. :-)

I agree. One of the best. :-)

Can’t believe the 1st engineer couldn’t diagnose that

Lots of newer engineers would miss this. They don't see these boilers very much. :-)

the first engineer changed the valve but couldn't clean a pilot injector? He needs to be better trained.

Thanks. I can't find the issue with the audio at the moment but will have to redo it. Pain in the ass when I don't have a clue about this stuff.
