Dennis, this is amazing! I cannot thank you enough for giving me hope of being able to eat pizza and ice cream again. I've just lost 30 pounds using Ozempic for my diabetes for several months, after my insurance company no longer paid for Victoza. I hated the terrible Ozempic side effects and with my doctor's permission, I came off it. My blood sugar numbers have stablized at either non-diabetic, or pre-diabetic levels. The whole time I was on Ozempic, I ate low carb, but not once did I have pizza or ice cream. I am extremely excited to have hope that I can maintain these levels for the rest of my life. You've made me want to cry for joy! Diane
This was a wonderful test. Thank you for helping thousands of diabetics with your common sense using glucose testing.

Just today I discovered a low carb ingredient to put into chaffels that makes them absolutely delicious. I crumbled an ice cream cone into the mix with a little cashew milk for moisture. The less egg you use, and more cheese, turns them into crispy, chewy craving killers. Feel free to use this tip in a video. Love your videos. It's the regular cones without sugar. $2.00 per box, 3 carbs per cone.

Dennis, you saved my life. I discovered my prediabetes when I landed in the ER for high blood pressure and blood work was done. My random glucose was 209. At the follow up with my PCP, I had to insist on an A1C test. I was at 6.0. I then followed your recommendations and my next A1c test was normal. I eat keto/low carb, mostly plant-based. Yesterday, I decided to through caution to the wind and ate an entire cup of steamed white rice. My glucose shot up to 248 which is terrifying. I will test my A1c again next week, and it likely will be in the normal range even though I am very much metabolically impaired. More people should have access to tools and data to know what is happening in their bodies so that diabetes can be prevented.

Glucose is glucose. Sweet potato and quinoa are mostly glucose. Your liver makes all the gluvose you need. Any you eat is extra and has to be stored as fat or burned before the body can return to normal business. When you are type 2 diabetic, this takes a long time and does not go well. If you are type 1 it is a dance with death. If you eat glucose constantly, your body is always in distress and never gets around to normal business.
@kathym66033 ай бұрын

If it says error either the strip or the meter can be off. Or you did the test wrong. Not enough blood. My husband had issues when first learning to use it. Lots of errors. Very rare now. If reading too high, which can happen, they can be readjusted at the pharmacy. My husband's was reading in the 8s and 9s. He kept a food diary for a week. Nothing that should have caused problems. They tested him with both his meter and theirs at the pharmacy . 3 point difference. They fixed his meter. Sounds like your friend is addicted to her carbs.

I'm not diabetic but almost became prediabetic. I'm no longer doing keto but still very low carb. I test my glucose and ketones everyday. I have to not only be aware of carbs but seed oils and stay low fodmap because of health issues. I've got a friend who is a paraplegic. He has issues with lymphedema. I've got him doing keto. I really try to get him testing glucose with a meter I no longer use I have him. He does maybe once a week. I harp on him to test every morning, and before and after every meal. The first time I showed him the importance by testing, his pre meal was 130, a hour after eating was 190, then 5 minutes after that dropped to 90. I know that pattern as a sign of reactive hypoglycemia and very high blood sugar and freaked. That's why I'm harping on the importance. He thinks just because he's doing keto it means his blood sugar is always gonna be better. But I know from experience that some foods I react more to than others. Cabbage doesn't affect my blood sugar but screws with my digestion. If I use it to make kimchi or sauerkraut it's fine. Oats I have a issue with even if I make overnight oats often even in very small amounts. Subbing oats with things like chia seeds and nuts work much better and making a sub for cream of wheat with coursely ground nuts works better than my old fave oatmeal. I can add berries, stevia, ground cinnamon for flavor or small amounts of higher carb fruit like apples and banana or even mango without issues. But it's got to be very little. He may react better to some foods than others and blood sugar testing would be best to figure out his personal trigger foods along with flare ups from his lymphedema. But it's a case of you can lead a horse to water on that one with him. I feel me trying to convince him the importance is like talking to and banging my head on a titanium wall, not even a brick or concrete one. Sometimes with this I want to scream out of frustration because he just doesn't see the value despitey test and some of his own showing him how needed it is.

So, out of curiosity, has anyone else ran into the issue I'm having? Can't quite get a handle on why this happens sometimes, but not others. There are times that a get a couple McDoubles from McDonalds for a meal. I toss the bread and just eat the meat, cheese, and pickles, and what little ketchup/mustard are left on the patties. Sometimes I'll have that and my sugar will remain low in the 120-140 range, but other times, it shoots through the roof, like 170+, even a few hours after eating. This is usually after I've been fasting since breakfast, so my baseline is low already. I know McDonald's isn't what you'd call high class food, but sometimes it's all I've got time for. It's the inconsistency of it that gets me. Only theory I have is that they're spiking their meat with some bread or something to stretch it out further.

@nataliajimenez18703 ай бұрын
The starch in the quinoa is digested into glucose. It's just digested a little slower than refined starches. Like Denis says, you have to use Mike the Meter to check how a certain food affects you. People that are metabolically healthy and exercise a lot can possibly have whole grains, but people that are a diabetic or prediabetic just can't have them
@johnsonpaul19143 ай бұрын
Grains in any for are NOT human food. Feed any whole grain to farm animals and you get fat animals. Why should we be different. Also, technically, quinoa is not a grain because it is not a grass, however the nutrition profile (or lack of nutrition) is similar to a grain.

@johnsonpaul1914 What does that have to do with the fact that keto does NOT reverse insulin resistance? Not denying junk food is the reason why people get type 2. I do not eat those crappy foods anymore. It's been several years. I tried Keto. My body needed rice of all things, for example. I notice that my bg is going down consistently. Keto does not reverse insulin resistance. I EAT a balanced variety of foods, including meats. God's fruits and veggies. And some meats are not the enemy...ultra processed foods are. I'm saying ALL fruits and veggies in small amounts get the body/cell used to nutrition is good. By the way, he compared God's food to a more processed food. That is not fair. Plus, the reason why his bg was high when eating the yam and quinoa is because he is STILL INSULIN RESISTANT. He lowered his bg but, he has NOT beat diabetes. You know why? Because he can't eat a simple yam or rice without spiking high bg. If he starts to eat in small amounts to get body used to it...he can heal.

I don’t believe that whipped cream won’t spike your blood sugar. It tastes plenty sweet to me so why haven’t they come up with an ice cream that doesn’t spike your blood sugar? Though there is good advice given on this channel I fear you should keep this from your insulin sensitive family members. It is a huge burden having them know about your problem and also not being able to share events simply because you cannot eat sweets and fried foods.

Don’t think this is fair to sweet potatoes. You paired it with high carb and no protein or fat. Double whammy. Let it cool and you have resistant starch. Add cinnamon and a little butter. Have protein before you eat it. Africans eat a lot of sweet potatoes and no colon cancer. Great nutrients in sweet potato. Try again! You got this result because you wanted this result!
