The Cholesterol Myth: What Really Clogs Our Arteries

Testing Total Cholesterol, HDL and LDL is a completely outmoded and outdated test which does not give any indicator as to whether or not we are a candidate for a heart attack. The video explains what actually clogs the arteries, some anatomy of the wall of the artery and how plaque forms and the better tests that are more up to date and should be added to our repertoire of blood work if we want to keep up with research on cardiovascular disease in the 21st century. The truth is we are relying on a decades old testing paradigm that has never been shown to be of any value in predicting heart disease, and more importantly, many people have been put on very dangerous statin drugs when they did not need them in the first place.
Also explained in the video is how to prevent plaque from forming in the first place by following age-old and time-tested techniques for proper diet, daily routine and cleansing techniques offered to us through the sound knowledge of Ayurveda.
Research has not only proven that high cholesterol is not an indicator for heart disease, but it even goes further to show that if you do have clogged arteries, statin drugs do nothing to clean them out. We have three methods in Ayurvedic medicine to scrub and clean out the arteries which has been verified on before and after CT scans of the arteries.

I'm 73 year old male, who had a "physical" recently. I thought all was well until my doctor called about about a week later, to let me know my cholesterol was high, (215), and that I needed to come in. I went in fully prepared to resist her putting me on statins. She didn't disappoint me, and advised I get on statins right away. I laughed, and said "no thank you". She did not back down, so I told her that I didn't blame her, because "Big Pharma" has had such a powerful influence on health care providers. I believe this is pretty much automatic behavior now, along with referring you to a specialist, no matter what you came in for.

The doctors are swearing that they are seeing it protect their patients. The bigger issue is that you can be genetically tested to see if your body will have any issues with the statins. I think it should be malpractice to try to put you on a drug for life without testing your genetic profile against the metabolic pathways that the drugs use. This type of testing used to cost a fortune and it’s now in the $200ish range, not inexpensive but against permanent muscle and liver damage? Well worth the cost.

Any 'bread' that is sold in plastic bags - a give away - any 'bread' that lasts more than 48 hours. If it does it ain't bread. The easy way to prove cholesterol is the culprit in CHD is to do a study measuring the cholesterol of people who have just died from a heart attack. I have one question: I have noticed that my cholesterol gets “out of range” when I eat out a lot and exercise less and the other way around: If I eat at home (healthier foods and less food) and exercise more, my cholesterol level goes down. My weight is pretty constant no matter what I eat. Is the extra cholesterol caused by the extra food and kind of food that I ate and the decrease in exercise?

All good if you don't care about your cholesterol level but at least you need to care about your arteries. If you didn't check their condition and you disregard cholesterol only by your gut feeling you will be up for a big surprise. Check your arteries. I did while eating a normal western diet filled with fat and oils... and they were filled with placs. Took me 3 years on a low fat plant based diet to completely reverse it. And it did reverse and now they are completely free from plac buildup. This was 13 years ago and since then stayed on a low fat plant based diet as it was the only one recommended by an illustrious Cardio Surgeon of the Cleveland Clinic. Do your due research don't just jump in on a bandwagon. If your arteries conditions are ok on high cholesterol than ok.... if not cut it out from your diet and reverse the stenosis asap.

I was put on statins after a heart attack. 2 days before the attack I had been bitten on the chest by a horse at a riding school I was working at. He knocked me clear across the yard. I had bruising right across my chest and back. So I assume that I had some internal bleeding. Being a normal guy, I picked myself up, swore at the horse, and carried on working. I worked the next 2 days. Then on the Friday evening went out for a meal. At about 3am I woke up feeling a bit strange and went to the kitchen to get some water. I didn't make it. I collapsed, dropping my glass on the way. I remember thinking "wow! That bounced!" I came to about 20 minutes later. I got dressed and walked a mile to a friend's house. I got them to take me to hospital. That's where they confirmed that I'd had a heart attack. The hospital put a couple of stents in to the arteries going into my heart. They were something like 88% blocked. I asked if this was caused by the bruising from the horse bite. I was told that it was because I was a smoker. I find it strange that the internal bleeding was totally discounted. I was prescribed about 6 different drugs for after care. Statins being one of them. I stopped taking them after a month, because I felt awful each time I took them. It's been 7 years. I eat meat, fish, butter, olive oil. I take vitamin D and use an antihistamine because I work outdoors and get bitten by mosquitos and get many scratches from plants. I don't even bother with the blood thinners. My sats are in the 90s and resting heart rate in the 70s. I still smoke. I drink wine and beer when it suits me. I still climb ladders and trees and dig out post holes. I'm 61 next birthday. Stay away from prescription medication. There's no money in curing people. And that's the bottom line.

Well, the obvious answer is that a treatment by a licensed professional requires a consult and testing. The other obvious answer would be that a practice needs paying patients to exist. Why not arrange for a consultation? Further, the good doctor has shared some important guidelines such as avoiding sugar and oxidative seed oils that cause inflammation and potential injury to your arteries. Another choice she has shared for free is a list of blood tests that you could probably have done yourself at a popular testing lab, not too expensive, and maybe try to interpret the results yourself, at your own risk. I would also recommend seeking lectures by Dr. Lustig who presents this topic in a historical context that helps to understand why common medical practices seem not to stem the rise of obesity and cardiovascular disease. I am not a healthcare professional so this comment is only an opinion based on watching several videos on this topic, and my personal experience.
