Thankyou for putting on this! I joined the 'club' last year, as a person with 'sensitivity' only, but enough to know when I've been 'glutenized' and the subsequent adverse consequences. Har Gow is my fav. Just got to find Xanthum Gum where I live. Going out to restaurants especially local ones, is a hit and miss. I am so happy I can now make these at home using your awesome instruction.

I definitely understand. I miss being able to go to dim sum restaurants so much! Hopefully this helps you start to recreate some of your favorites. I’ve actually been learning a lot since I posted this video two years ago and will be posting some of my new recipes soon! In the meantime, also check out the research on gluten free wheat starch. I’ve been loving the new possibilities and it’s fully safe for celiac, so I would imagine the same is true for intolerance (though check with your doctor!).

I could go on forever about dim sum but my greatest wish is for a solid gluten free shumai recipie! I've also been trying to do a thicker skin, chewy chinese takeout dumpling but haven't nailed that either... Oh and nikuman! Okay I'm done. Nice video :)

Hi Katie! Oh yes, I too have been dreaming of shumai!! So far I have not been successful, but do have a spreadsheet going with notes to try and crack that one. I am also working on baozi/nikuman and xiaolongbao ! :) should be posted in a few months. I have some other cuisines lined up for the next few weeks! Thanks so much for watching!!

Great video. If you can make a gluten free carrot cake that tastes amazing that would be neat.

Thank you, they look amazing! Can they be frozen before cooking and then thawed for cooking at a later date? Also, what would you suggest for a vegetarian filling?
@pastel.gnocchi3 жыл бұрын
You can definitely freeze them raw and then cook as needed. I would put them on a baking sheet with parchment paper (not touching) to freeze them, and then transfer to a freezer bag once frozen to make sure they don’t stick to one another. For the vegetarian filling, mushrooms, carrots and cabbage stir fried would go fantastically, just make sure to remove as much moisture from the filling as you can before forming the dumpling. Hope you enjoy!

Forgot to mention, when cooking from frozen don’t thaw beforehand. Leave them frozen, put a bit of sesame oil in a nonstick pan, add a few tablespoons of water and cover with a lid over medium heat. Let them steam until cooked (may need to add a little more water) and then let them get crispy on the bottom before serving.

Can u use corn starch too ?
@pastel.gnocchi3 жыл бұрын
Corn starch is safe for celiacs that do not have an allergy/intolerance for corn, however substituting corn starch in this recipe will give different results. I haven’t tested this with cornstarch, but would imagine that unfortunately you will not get the same texture in the dough.

Unfortunately there isn’t any low carb substitute that I know of that would work for this recipe.
