Hi, Glyn... I loved this long exposure tutorial. It gives me something to aim towards. Unfortunately, I have been away from Photoshop for almost a year and I'm heartbroken to find that when I started back I felt like a duck who found a clarinet. I couldn't remember how to do ANYTHING! I have to start all over. I have a few memories that pop in with the right shortcuts but sometimes they are not exactly what I needed. It's so sad. It's like learning a foreign language...if you don't use it - you lose it. Now I feel like a neophyte once more. This episode brings a few things back, but I fear I'll have to start all over with Basics and promise myself I'll never let Photoshop go, again. But thanks for getting me interested in getting back to what was my favorite thing to do. I want to be "addicted" again And you are one of the very best at teaching Photoshop. Bless your heart! ....Apple
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Apple thank you so much for watching and for commenting. As for having to learn Photoshop again, there could well be a good side to that. In the past you may have had some "bad habits" in Photoshop but now seemingly starting over again, those will be long gone. Starting fresh could be a great thing to do. I sort of did that a few years ago. I'd started using plug ins but then found over time that I had de-skilled myself in Photoshop. So, I deleted all the plugins and kind of started again. Best thing to have happened 👍 Thank you for the kind words too.

Great video, please to see you are still motivated with landscapes. Waterfalls are really good to photography with long exposure. A little trick someone told me is, if on the beach and you don't want your tripod legs to get suck in the sand put DVD's or CD's under each leg.
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Julie. Yeah I do the CD/DVD thing when it’s very soft sand to prevent the tripod legs sinking. On this shoot I pushed them into the sand to stop movement…seemed to work well 👍🏻

@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark...Thanks so much for looking in on the channel. Re your question about the borders, it's just done within the printing software by setting the paper size and then scaling the image so that it doesn't fill to the edges and is centred 👍🏻

Another interesting video - thanks :) Just to say, as I'm sure you know, using a brush to subtract the mask along a straight edge (such as under the pier) can be made a lot easier by clicking on the brush start point, then shift -> clicking on the end point to paint a straight line between.
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob...thanks for the kind words and for commenting. Yeah I know the shift + click function with the brush. I did use it originally here with he eraser too but to keep it maybe more understandable decided to leave it out of the edit. Glad you mention it here though for others to see 👍

Hi - excuse my silly question (still quite new to PS) but once you have addressed the sky left around the birds to leave you with 3 layers you then hit save. Does that merge all the layers together or is there a missing step? Otherwise a really helpful and well explained video that gives a lovely end result. Many thanks Clive
@paulgreen7582 жыл бұрын
hi Clive, yes when you hit save it blends all layers together to work on further in Lightroom
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Clive when I click save it does save all the layers but doesn’t merge them; this way I can still access them if I choose to ‘Edit Original’ from Lightroom 👍🏻
@cliveingram98402 жыл бұрын
@@glyndewis hi Glyn and many thanks for the reply but can I ask how you get to the final photo I.e. with all the changes you have made in PS merged into one layer ( again pardon my ignorance but I am trying hard to get to grips with PS). Clive

Excellent videos. Do you know how to remove the blue share button from the Photoshop options bar?
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Jim. As for the blue share button, at the moment I don't believe it can be removed. I know something was updated in Adobe Acrobat for folks to remove it from there, but at the moment I don't think there's a way to remove / hide it in Photoshop.
@haaa2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot, could you by the way explain me what the constrain image does in cropping section of Lr? Is it useful at all?
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Hi There. It is useful but mainly when transforming the perspective of an image. Doing so 'can' introduce empty pixels outside of the original image boundary...Constrain Crop and Constrain Image prevent this. This is ideal for folks who have Lightroom but not Photoshop as in Photoshop you could use something like Content Aware Fill to cover the empty areas.
@leecoombs46222 жыл бұрын
Hi Glyn how do you get back to lightroom from photoshop please.
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lee. If you initially export the images from Lightroom, as in the video, once you just go File > Save (Command in Mac / CTRL in Windows) + S, then it automatically saves back over into Lightroom. Hope that helps 👍
@judithbrowning53762 жыл бұрын
What kind of neutral density filter did you use? I didn’t understand the brand name. Thanks.
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Hi Judith. The filters I use are H&Y. You'll see the ones I use on my gear page using the link in the description 👍
@bcegerton2 жыл бұрын
Actually won a full set of those H&Y Magnetic Filters, I think it was a full set, 7 filters anyway. I think they’d been used once for a review, other than that they were brand new, I never used them and ended up selling them for £350 on eBay as they just didn’t feel right on my Fuji Xt3, plus, they were too expensive for my needs as much as I wanted to keep them I needed the cash more and wasn’t letting them go unless I cleared at least £300. As you know they are worth much more, my wife said just sell them for whatever seeing as they were free, she’s isn’t a photographer plus I needed to put some cash towards my holiday and cover the cost of the K&F magnetic ring filter starter kit I needed, never ended up putting the rest to my holiday, only because I messed up and Adobe took my full year subscription out instead of monthly, wanted to cancel it at first but then realised that at least I didn’t have to worry a lot a direct debit each month. I’ll confess, I didn’t watch properly as it’s late but I’m trying to learn PS and love Long Exposure so saving the video for when I can concentrate properly on it.
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Cheers for commenting Brian. The first set of filters I had were made by Lee and I maybe used them twice despite having spent a lot on them. Found them cumbersome and awkward. The H&Y ones suit me so much better so I'm using them all the time now. As for long exposure...totally with you there. Love it. Cheers for looking in 👍

Hi Ross...thanks so much for watching and for the kind words. Re the B&W conversion...I basically clicked on Black&White then chose the bw01 preset option...it just looked the nicest version for me. Once I clicked 'close' I then could just open the B&W tab and use the sliders to alter the black and white a little more. The Orange slider brightened up the pier a touch more which I really liked.
