GM 2 Stroke 8v71 Detroit Diesel in a 1979 Western Star dump truck! Putting it to work.

1979 Western Star Dump truck with a General Motors built 8v71 series 2 stroke Detroit Diesel. The girl needs work but functions quite well!

I have childhood memories of a similar truck my Grandfather had. He had an orange and white variant. Company was EWD Kendall Trucking - Hazelton, BC.

@@AustinEh It was the only White in his fleet. I think it was a bit older as it had round headlights. Ahh yes, it also had White Western Star on it as well. He sold it to a friend and ran two International S2600's until he bought his final truck, a 1990 Ford L8000.

I have basically the same truck! Though someone shelled out the Detroit and swapped in an 1160 Caterpillar which certainly does the job but it's no Detroit! Mine is a 74 and an ex state government unit so lots and lots of salt application and then it became a feedlot truck being driven by some of the most abusive people on the face of the planet so you can imagine the shape it's in. Still does a great job for us though in off highway use...the truck would likely make a DOT officer get the dry heaves!
