The 4T65e transmission is very reliable if and only if you change fluid and filter regularly. All models of transmissions require regular maintenance to be reliable. Owners just don't do it. I have 193000 on 4T65e, no ploblems, shifts smooth as when new.

So many complaints about this being a bad trans, but you can also see that trans fluid was filthy and likely way beyond when it was supposed to be changed. People need to read their instruction manual and service their vehicles accordingly.

Good video- at 6:18, since the seal is made of metal could you not just leave the original one in there and pop your new filter into it, Or is it really necessary to replace it? Thanks
@6speeddakota2 жыл бұрын
The seal is metal with a bonded rubber ring on the inside. You could reuse it if it holds onto the filter nicely without being loose or sloppy. It’s best practice to replace it though.

The 1-2 upshift was much smoother, as was the 3-4 upshift. It would usually rev really high and then bang into the next gear. The 4-3 downshift was still an issue; when you jumped on the throttle and it would go to downshift, it would rev higher than it was supposed to and then would jerk into 3rd. As far as I knew, that never stopped, but they didn't drive it on the highway a lot so they wouldn't notice. They traded the car in this last may, but the car had 270,000 Km on the original trans, so it had a really long life, and I bet that it would go to 300,000 without failure. So it was much improved but not perfect.

fucking amazing video skills man. i am planning to do this to my car soon before i leave for a 1000 mile road trip, 240k miles on trans, fluid is black, shifts fine when cold, when up to temperature it clunks up shifting and downshifting into lower gears, i plan to change fluid and filter but i am scared because of the rumors that it will end the life of the transmission so i ask you, should i or should i not do what you have done in this video?
@6speeddakota5 жыл бұрын
If the transmission oil is so black and burnt that you're having slippage and bad shifting problems, then changing it will clear out all the old sludge and clutch material to the point where you will experience failure because the fluid thickened with clutch material is changed with clean thinner fluid. If you've serviced it regularly, it should be fine. If your fluid is a nice pink colour, you shouldn't experience much of an issue. That's unreal to get that kind of mileage out of one of these, they usually don't last that long because of the poor design.
@brett45693 жыл бұрын
@@6speeddakota They don't last that long because idiots follow the insane idea that transmission fluid is good for life then when experiencing issues they look to change fluid and filter. I got 220k on mine no issues what so ever, hopefully get it to 300k. I change mine with filter every 3 years, if your worried about slippage to due regular wear and tear add the Lucas. Using the gasket it came with or buy a new reusable gasket is defiantly the way to go, otherwise probably will have leaks at some point.

Anthonythesider my wife’s grandparents bought this thing cheap as a second vehicle for her grandma to drive to work and back. It had almost 300,000 km when they got rid of it, but the motor was very tired and consuming a quart of oil every 2 weeks, so they didn’t want to put a ton of money into it. They just wanted the transmission to last a bit longer to get a bit more use out of it. They ended up trading it in on a push pull or drag type deal for a GMC Terrain a couple months later.

just pump out 8 quarts of trans fluid through the dipstick, not that hard to do, Then its less messy and less in weight. I dont know why people never do that. Its a lot less work on you...Also, buy a buy a big plastic mixing pan and put cover pan inside the plastic pan then spray the oil pan cover so the cleaner does not go all over your ground, do it outside so you dont breath the fumes in. or wear a mask... all this sprays are very bad for your lungs and i am breathing only on one lung now, WEAR A MASK!!!!!!!!!
