hey man my brother has a cobalt with the same engine. we are trying to figure out why it doestn start until you crank it a bunch of times . weve narrowed it down to the fuel/evac system. any advice?

Try using a small sniff of brake cleaner or starting fluid in the intake and see if it’ll fire up. If it starts and tries to run, that rules out the ignition, and will likely rule out the cam and crank position sensor as that’s required to run the ignition as well as the fuel injectors. I would be willing to bet that the fuel pump is probably weak. When you turn the key to the run position, you should hear the pump hum for a second. If you don’t, or it doesn’t sound so good, that’s probably your smoking gun.

@@6speeddakota that was fast haha. yep, ive already changed the cam and cranks sensors. it does fire up when spraying carb cleaner into the intake. the fuel pump was replaced due to a blown line a few months ago. i can hear the pump on the first couple goes with actually cranking it but then it wont make the hum anymore on the 3rd or 4th. i assume this is because the fuel system alreayd has pressure built up. but yestarday i poked the little bleeder/test port on the fuel rail and there was no fuel pressure. not sure what else it could be. i watched ur vid explaining the evac system and i was wondering if the evac system (being that it also holds pressure/vaccum) could be the cause.

@@6speeddakota i meant without cranking it when talking ab the fuel pump

Unlikely to be the evap system. So clearly there’s no fuel pressure getting to the rail. I believe there’s a fuel filter underneath the vehicle above the evap canister. Try undo the line on the tank side, put a hose on the end of it and put it in a container. Have someone cycle the key and see if you have fuel coming out of the line. Be very careful not to spray fuel everywhere, no open flames etc. Wear safety glasses, etc. If there’s fuel coming out, chances are there’s a blockage in the system. Don’t forget, flow does not mean pressure. Just because there’s fuel flow, doesn’t mean it’s making fuel pressure. I’d be willing to bet that either the pump you have in it has quit, or a line has blown off or broken inside the tank causing the fuel to dump right into the tank again. I’ve heard of there being a bad parts epidemic right now, so don’t assume because it’s new, that a part is good.

@@6speeddakota gotcha, i think ive narrowed it down to maybe the check valve not seating, a sttuck spring in the regulator, leaking injectors, and what you said about a blockage in the system. well, thank you very much for the knowledge. i will definitely subscribe . you have very informative videos, keep it up!
