No DEF add ons, no hypercomplex electronics, mean looks. Man, this would be an absurd hit in the real world. Not overstylised yet still looks modern and unique. Crazy how often function over form on trucks still net a good looking truck.

The M880 By Dodge were permanent full time trucks which didn’t have a part-time or 2 wheel drive mode at all, for you youngsters who don’t know. The CUCV by GM had the same Detroit Diesel 6.2 V8 as the original HMMV’s but they were part time 4wd drive but they may have been a few full time trucks but I never saw any but I’m no expert authority just a veteran who had to get his military operators/drivers license for most moving equipment for unit deployment purposes reasons to include the outgoing Jeeps we had access to.

DoD did something very similar back in the 80s with the K5 blazers and chevy 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. They took basically a standard K5 blazer and modded it to fit the military's needs. It was supposed to cut down on the cost of procuring non-combat, support vehicles. From I heard, they didn't work to well. I had an old army K5 for awhile, I believe it was labeled as a M1009 although I could be wrong on that. Nice truck, crappy engine and getting parts was kind of tough because it had a hybrid 12/24v electrical system. A parts guy looked at me kinda funny when I told him I needed a 24v starter for a blazer. Pretty sure he thought I was crazy.

Military Grade simply means "no frills" so the military gets a vehicle that has only the bare minimum needed. I for one would love to buy a truck like that but the reason GM would never offer a no frills truck to the public is they would miss out on the opportunity to mark up the price for such creature comforts as AC/Heated seats, automatic parking, child sensor locks to let you know if you left the General locked up in his car seat in the second row.

If you look at more recent winch setups on military vehicles, they are mounted on the outside of the frame, typically just a little aft of the cab on the passenger side. The cable can be routed to the front or the rear as need be. They don't use a hook on the end, rather a clevis. So that truck may actually have a winch on it, but the cable is not pulled through the front fairlead.

So my 2012 2500HD has all 1T running gear/frame etc. So a heavy Suburban would be the same deal. My 2012 has a lot of bolt on stuff and only 33k miles, 6.0 Iron block LS. I haven't found a good reason to upgrade yet. It's been paid for for 8 years, and would cost 2X what I paid to upgrade to newer. I love my truck, and I have KO3's on it. 8) The matching glass cap w/all carpet inside is cool too. It has been mistaken for a Suburban! 8) Peace --gary

Here is what this truck is: a beefed up Chevrolet ZR2 HD pickup with minimal creature comforts, a 6.6L Duramax diesel engine with no emission controls that will run on #2 diesel fuel, #1 diesel fuel, kerosene, or Jet A fuel, and will likely cost U.S. taxpayers about $200K-$250K per truck, if not more. Note here, too, that many of the other Chevy Colorado-based military vehicles built by GM Defense use the 2.8L "baby" Duramax diesel that has a timing belt that has to be replaced fairly regularly and is not even built in the U.S., but is built in Thailand using a VM Motori (Italy) design. I wonder if the military has figured out how to get parts for a foreign-designed engine built in a foreign country if a new World War cranks up . . .

The original Chevrolet LUV pickup was a rebadged Isuzu just as the original Ford Courier pickup was a rebadged Mazda.

The suburban has Chevy logos so that it blends in better with civilian cars. It is probably built on a single rear wheel 1 ton chassis. It also most likely has a fully deleted duramax.

The colorado zr2 thing is cool. Its a modern day jeep. Theyre putting the 2.8 diesel in it instead of the new 4 cylinder. They should sell that to the public.

My first vehicle was a 1974 Chevy LUV. It was a fun little truck and was unstoppable, other than you could actually hear it rust. 😂. Basically, an Isuzu import with Chevy badges.

Got to drive some of the last Gen armored suburbans in Iraq. Heavy beasts on the order of 13,000lbs. Aftermarket company did the armoring but the suspension was still stock. Lots of over time for the depot there modifying the suspensions to not ride on the bump stops. Hopefully 1st party armoring will prevent this.....

Chev and GM offered a 3500 Suburban for fleet sales up to just a few years back maybe 2020 - 2021. Now I wonder with the military type Suburban if this will be an option again? Do you know what chassis the armoured version is built on? I would expect that to be a 3500 underpinnings.

Military grade usually means you have to do your PM and fix it at least once a week. And if it's not leaking oil, it'll probably fail.. And it's probably over-priced That's what I learned from the military.

To simplify logistics, the military uses a single fuel -- JP8. That indicates to me this thing probably has a diesel engine.

7:12 Not a single picture of any actual vehicles? In 1990 we took back Kuwait, the Taliban had 1982 Toyota 4x4 diesels with .50. Caliber (saw) machine guns . These trucks were 4 cylinder diesels with 40-50 mph and engines could last 400,000 miles, They were never sold in any quantity in USA but we did see pictures of actual trucks in battle... I hope that chevrolay has the hum vee automatic or even better, 4-5 speed manual, I would hate to think my life depended on Chevrolet automatic transmission....
