One nice feature of the LSX block is that you can change or inspect the lifters without removing the heads, on a stock LS engine block, you must remove the heads to replace the lifters. I think it is a great block. Just as strong as a big block, but some 50 pounds lighter. Also, it is capable of a 4.25 stroke. With a 4.125 bore, that is 454 cid in a small block size...wow.

An iron block can hold more power than a aluminum block. That's why he mentioned it can handle more nitrous and boost. If you leave the motor as it is then an aluminum block would be better. But you put boost or some squeeze to it, iron block is the way to go

ERL's LSX blocks are all aluminum and they're good for 1,500-1,600+ horsepower.
@DanSVT03
@DanSVT03 10 жыл бұрын
Stephen Bagnell I know that, but if you're not building something with outrageous horsepower then you don't really have to go with an iron block. There are a lot of durable aluminum blocks out there that can handle some serious abuse. But yeah, the iron LSX's are good for over 2,000 horsepower which is crazy.

Total overkill to a budget build when you can take a junkyard 4.8,5.3 or 6.9 and make those numbers on head work, cam and e85.

Im not sold that this 427 block is a true 427 block, I bet it shows that its 5.7 or 6.0 stamped on the back of the block. They just bore them over to hit the 427 ci numbers like everyone else is doing. Its still a small block just bored over?
@lexustech48
@lexustech48 3 жыл бұрын
The LSX block requires machining if you get the bare block. It's as small as 309 cubic inches with the shipped bore finished with a 4.8 crank, all the way up to 500+ cubic inches with 4.2" bore and 4.2"+ stroke with the 9.70" tall deck version. As for being a factory production 427, this is a standalone Performance Gen IV small block not found in any car or truck from the factory.

Im guessing you refere to the 5.2 L Voodoo, that is a specialty engine so not really a fair comparison. the LSX is for building "cheap", reliabel performance, it would be more fair to compare the Voodoo to the LT4 volume for volume as they are in the same price range: Ford: 1,66984 hp/ci vs Chevy: 1,78571 hp/ci. And BMW's S63 (S63B44T2) (268 ci) makes 567hp which kicks both the chevy and the fords ass with 2.11567 hp/ci. But i would say the Chevy has the best tuning potential.
