I have that truck on my birthday carbon pro duramax diesel 3.0 AT4
@pyramidlake71242 жыл бұрын
Just drove one yesterday, used with 26,000 miles. Lifetime mileage on it was 15.4 mpg. Not what people are saying they get on here. Visibility was bad from the driver's seat and the seats are horrible. Road noise was bad also. Popped the hood and my gosh, forget about doing your own wrenching. Motor /engine is back under the dash. I went to look with the intention of a purchase, but when I. Compare it to my 5.0 Cummins in the pro4x package, no comparison. The truck I have been driving for over 50k you can feel is just a much better built vehicle. More comfortable and I hope in the long term will be easier to maintain. I do like the looks of the truck, but like a beautiful woman, the true beauty is her heart and soul, not her looks!

Don’t drive in 4 wheel auto on dry roads all the time. In the long run you will regret it. Even tho it says AUTO it’s still in 4 wheel drive mode and you will wear out the clutch pack in the transfer case. Auto just allows some slip so you don’t bind on turns. And will send more power to the from if it needs it otherwise it’s a 25-75% split front to back.

Don't buy the carbon pro bed. You cannot use most bed accessories such as covers. Go for the regular bed. The truck is excellent though, I have one with a 6.2 L myself.
@ChrisDIYerOklahoma3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your video/insight! I went with the 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 (6.2L) loaded. Some of the "best" things I love about it: 1) the 6.2L V8. Seriously great horsepower if you feed it 93 octane (91 is fine, 93 is best) 2) lane keep assist. What a surprise how the truck keeps you on the road over 35 mph by self steering itself 3) adaptive cruise control 4) heads up display with a LARGE red warning display if you brake too late 5) multi-pro tailgate. Easy as snot to access the bed...or sit and fish. NOW, things that I do NOT like: 1) Auto start/stop. Pisses me off when I forget to turn it off and the truck shuts off at lights 2) black rough texture wheel well flares. Thankfully, I able to replace those with factory color matched ones (smooth) 3) Rancho shocks -- absolutely wonky-wonk bouncy bounce on the pavement. Way too soft. I already replaced the rear shocks with Bilstein 5100's...MUCH better 4) the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires are excellent, but noisy at highway speeds. I ended up replacing them with Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 tires. These are no-kidding 10-ply tires vs 6-ply with the Goodyears. The Bridgestones are dead quiet on the road 5) front seat butt cushioning...lack thereof. Whatever happened to making comfortable seats? BOTTOM LINE: to each their own and their personal tastes/needs. Glad I got it this truck...the 6.2L makes up for many of it's mediocre fit/finish/tuning/tire issues which I had to fix to suit my own needs. But, who doesn't mod their trucks? The 6.2L AT4 does 0-60 in under 6 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.0 @ 100 mph (from Car and Driver tests).

I since then acquired my 2021 Sierra and it’s just a nicer more well put together vehicle that in some ways has proven to be more innovative in certain areas! But the Ram Box if damaged is a massive hassle to fix vs the set we offer from the GMC accessory website and ours also allows the use of a camper top or similar!

To my knowledge the only downside of using GM’s auto is fuel usage. I remember hearing somewhere that it sends at minimum 5% to the front wheels just being engaged and then depending on circumstances will deliver power when needed to all four more aggressively. I personally love the feel of the “all wheel drive.” It has more of a connected ground feel without so much of the push of a traditional rear wheel drive truck. Cornering is enhanced, supposedly throttle response is enhanced, but I would beg to differ with the additional drive train loss.
@Pickuptrucktalk3 жыл бұрын

@@Pickuptrucktalk exactly then. One other complaint I personally have , and im willing to bet a large majority of truck people hold as well, I wish the Diesel came in a lesser trim option. @Pickuptrucktalk3 жыл бұрын
I haven't done a side by side of those models. Ram has been pushing their new TRX as of late, so I don't get the regular trim models. The long and short of it is Ram has a better interior, diesel engine is not quite as good as GMs (slower, fuel efficiency, performance), has more features than GM and similar ride quality. Overall quality concerns are a big issue for Ram with people either having great luck or down right awful. Quality is improving and they are moving up the latest consumer surveys. GM has better overall quality, a better diesel and has a functional interior. I do like Ram's seats for comfort way better than GM seat comfort. That's a quick summary.

Excellent review! I am extremely grateful that you took the time to go over the many small, yet smart and thoughtful engineering GM baked into these trucks. The vast majority of other reviewers (which I enjoy too) skimp on these details and focus too much on the flashy screens. I'm soooooo glad you pointed out that the GM screen is very competitive in the volume trims, yes GM does need to offer a larger one in the highest trims. All of these small details is what actually sells the trucks. We've had plenty of customers just in for an oil change that aren't looking to buy. Yet when they sit in the trucks and see all the features and how well they work, and when they drive them. These trucks drive extremely well. Customers take the duramax out and they come back blown away, that a diesel can be that smooth and torquey. The interior is getting a make over next year too. PS. I do like your F150, if I was to buy another Ford, that's exactly what I would buy, but no chrome for me, I'd get FX4 with the sport package. Nice truck though Tim!
@Pickuptrucktalk3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Terrence. The little things always stand out to me for some reason. Maybe its because I've bought new trucks over the years. Once you get past the looks and powertrain, it is the little details which make or break the truck for you.

I was a bit surprised with a Diesel it wouldn’t be capable for more than 8000 lb towing
@gordonborsboom74603 жыл бұрын
Seems GM does not overstate its towing and MPG like the other brands. They seem to meet or exceed the stated values during public testing on a regular basis on fuel economy. Its better as an owner to brag you beat a stat then to be disappointed you never hit the target.
@Pickuptrucktalk3 жыл бұрын
They might improve that as the years go on. Frankly, though, it tows 8000 lbs really well and much easier than other gasoline powered trucks with more towing capacity if that makes sense.
@bobmakow553 жыл бұрын
@@Pickuptrucktalk definitely makes sense. My Nissan Titan has much more towing capacity however towing it up LaVeta Pass, Wolf Creek Pass, Slumgullian Summitt it was definitely all it wanted towing my 32" Jayco Jayflight 7500 lbs loaded, compared to my 2005 Dodge 3500 5.9L Cummins towing a 35 Keystone fifthwheel which I hardly knew was back there. Diesel is sure be more desirable going up grades.

These smaller diesels are made more for fuel economy than heavy hauling. That being said they’re definitely underrated, specially when you compare ratings on gas powered trucks.

I want a standard cab long bed with a bench seat. The AT4 and the diesel both aren't available on that set up. Probably wouldn't get diesel anyway. The carbon bed is tough, but not good for any attachments. That tailgate is too much of a gimmick for me. I even think the tailgate dampeners are a gimmick. Not a problem to let a tailgate down. Also don't need an electronic release, a regular handle is just fine. I wonder how that tailgate would hold up over time. I see too many that are buckled from actual use. These manufacturers have almost quit making actual trucks for use as a truck. Just a car with an open trunk.

3:15 that's it! #PEACEOFMIND!_! That's something I don't understand on ford vehicles that you have to go with the VERY EXPENSIVE top of the line to have the simple things that GM have like Auto 4WD, Auto headlights, stability track...etc . With engines and trans that only require normal maintenance, saving all the money for the fun(and utility bills) that gives you more confidence in what you drive. Even my first 4WD that I brought(2005 Trailblazer) had all that and more. THAT'S HOW GM KEEPS ME LOYAL! Basic but functional and moving...

@Lukas zzstu Sikorski not sure. I'll let you know when I buy my first Baby Duramax and drive it for 150k miles passing all the broken fords ecoboot trucks under 100k miles with blown turbos😄 for sure its gonna be a lot cheaper than having to replace the whole over worn and stressed small displacement engine with turbos🤣. What if I just get the big DURAMAX and drive it 500k miles with no issues🙂... good idea Thanks man!

@Lukas zzstu Sikorski good for them that give you lots of choices and that's an option that have sold like 3 units. You can leave the auto awd all the time. It only engages when rear slips. I almost never turn my off
@Pickuptrucktalk3 жыл бұрын
I did a little research on this and there is some argument online about whether or not to turn it off. GM says: "Although not always optimal for efficiency and wear of your vehicle 4wd driveline, AUTOMATIC 4 HI can be used on any road condition without risk of damaging your vehicle." The efficiency and wear are something of a concern for long-term ownership, but I still drive with it on all the time whenever I get one of these trucks to test out.
@Harry-zz2oh3 жыл бұрын
@@Pickuptrucktalk It may require more frequent oil changes. One thing about an all wheel drive is the issue with a flat tire which is smaller or the wear of the tire. AWD requires all the tires have about the same amount of tread. On my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee, we have to watch this to ensure the tires wear evenly or it could cause abnormal wear in the transfer case.

My Honda Ridgeline has a composite bed, lockable trunk and 1500LB bed capacity, and averages 25MPG. Looks like you are wishing you had a Honda. GMC has poor storage in the rear, only holds 1400LB in the bed. My Ridgeline has in-bed speakers that can be played for 3 hours on battery, a swing gate tailgate that allows for getting things in and out without the need for a "origami" tailgate that dents if you leave your hitch installed (just ask my cousin about that one, no disclaimer from GM or info about that on your video )
@uttamgala71863 жыл бұрын
Honda Ridgeline can’t compare with full size trucks when it comes to capability, but what I will say is that your Ridgeline will probably outlast a few generations of this GM garbage. They literally can’t even figure out something as simple as placing the payload/tow sticker a couple of inches over so it’s not right behind the pillar. Pretty much put no thought into engineering a truck whatsoever. I can’t wait for these things to break down 5 years from now so people will be able to see that buying something like a Ridgeline or Tundra would have been a much wiser financial decision.

There's no argument that the straight 6 diesel is a great engine. It's quiet, smooth, with good big, flat and long torque curve. It's the best Half Ton class 6 cylinder diesel on the market today. Only problem is that the PowerBoost 7.2 KW (or even Ecoboost) 6 cylinder gas engine is most powerful, best torque engine available anywhere. It has more towing and payload power than any gas V8 or 6 cyl diesel engine in half ton class. You have to go to the 3/4 ton pick up for a Godzilla or a Ram, Ford or GM V8 diesel to beat it.
