Quentin Crisp (1908-1999) "I always thought Diana was such trash and got what she deserved. She was Lady Diana before she was Princess Diana so she knew the racket. She knew that royal marriages have nothing to do with love. You marry a man and you stand beside him on public occasions and you wave and for that you never have a financial worry until the day you die." "She could have been Queen of England [sic] - and she was swanning about Paris with Arabs. What disgraceful behaviour! Going about saying she wanted to be the queen of hearts. The vulgarity of it is so overpowering."

I’m only just learning about her, in depth, I’ve seen her name and know of her sons and their marriages but never knew why everybody was so obsessed with Diana and after a full day of watching videos and clips of her, I can truly see why she’s so loved, even now. She was style, grace, compassion, unconditional love in human form. A true queen. She was SO beautiful, those dazzling blue eyes and that shy smile. I’ve fallen completely in love with her and I found myself crying about her death as if I was there when it happened. I pray her soul is at rest and May the Lord continue to cover her family in peace and strength ❤

Amen, unless you lived through that time period, and witnessed everything that happened to her, you just can't understand how strong and determined that woman was. Diana could not hide anywhere, so she stood up and took control of her life and did what her heart told her to do. Her charitable work was beyond what any royal has ever done. She set a standard that the sons wives have to live up to. That's why Megan ditched the family, she wouldn't work for her supper, so to speak, so she talked Harry into leaving.
@melaniew4354

Well I did live through the Diana years, I am 2 years younger than her and got up at 5am in 1981 to watch the wedding - I recall being astounded as she got out of that carriage and her dress just kept unfolding, it was like she was emerging from a cocoon - it's a shame this dress in the exhibition is just a replica. At any rate, please don't think Diana was a saint. Yes, it's true by 1990 we all were learning she had been bamboozled into a loveless marriage, and I get it that realizing Charles wasn't passionate about her and never would be (yes, so sad because she tried to make him love her and soul killing for her when it didn't work) drove her to some erratic behavior, BUT it truly would have been infinitely better if she had steeled herself and dug into her position as Princess of Wales. I would have NEVER, EVAH divorced Charles. I would have continued the charity work, focused on my children and sat my happy ass right there in that seat and denied that cow Camilla any drop of legitimate recognition. If Diana had played more of a long game, kept her mouth shut and not given those horrible tell-all interviews, played games with the press, or gotten involved with some of the unsavory characters, she let some real sleaze bags into her inner circle unfortunately....she would still be alive today and preparing to be Queen Consort. It truly galls the crap out of me that Camilla is about to be in that spot, it truly should be Diana! So I say these things to be honest, and because I did admire her and have sympathy for her situation. You can admire someone and still be critical and realistic about them. So if you are diving down the Diana rabbit hole ( and it's a deep one!) don't be so mesmerized that you make her out to be an innocent scared rabbit all the time, she wasn't. They called her the mouse that roared because she was selected because Charles and Camilla thought she was this mousey young quiet girl, and then she bloomed into an elegant spotlight-stealing swan and they didn't expect it. Look how plain Jane she looked at first. She was so young when she was sucked into the spotlight, and in so many ways she rose to the occasion, and in other ways she utterly failed. But that's what makes her so compelling, so I understand your fascination, heck I'm still drawn to her after all these years...it's a real shame she isn't here to be enjoying her grandchildren and as I said earlier preparing to be Queen Consort. Seriously, think about it...if she had just hunkered down, kept quiet and remained discreet, Charles and Camilla's affair would have come out eventually on it's own and then who would have wound up looking worse? Charles, for doing that? Or Diana, the mother of the heirs and devotee to social causes? Please. She already had the affection of the public and would have had it even more! And she would have had many more years to be effective for social causes. Those of us who lived through the leaking of the "squidgy" tapes and the whole "tampon" phone call can tell you how CRINGE that was! Ugh! Talk about totally embarrassing! Go look that whole mess up! So regrettable. Yes, Diana was elegant and luminous and at times just lit from within and we were all drawn to her, especially when she had an aura of mystery around her, but she wasn't this sad little helpless puppy. She did somewhat lose the plot (and her aura of mystery, sometimes it is best when the public DOESN'T know so much) towards the end, a good deal of that is on her. If she had been patient and played her cards better she wouldn't have been in that car in Paris on that night at all. Read up on some of the other ladies who married into the Royal Family and had to deal with their husband's mistresses, (Alexandra, who was married to Edward VII whose mistress was Alice Keppel and Camilla is actually her descendant, ironically, or Queen Mary who is QE II's grandmother, she was the Diana of her era but she stayed married) and didn't abdicate their roles and were just as beloved by the British people in their own times, what better revenge on the mistress than to keep her relegated to the back room? That should have been Camilla's fate (Alexandra made sure everyone knew Alice Keppel was nothing but the side chick), but NO, look what's about to happen. The upcoming Coronation has me thinking of all this again when I hadn't really thought too much of it in recent years. Such a travesty for real!

@@melaniew4354 wow! Reading this made me feel for a second as if D is alive and can do this - put Camila in her place. But sad she’s not here. And agree on that she could have played a bit cool but that’s how it was destined.
@melaniew4354
@melaniew4354 Жыл бұрын
@@lilylily9272 haha! I know that was alot, I appreciate that you read it. And the question I keep hearing from people who weren't around at the time is "why didn't he marry Camilla in the first place?" Well, it's because when they dated in the early 70s, Charles still had some obligations to fulfill, one of which was military duty. It seems he was way more onto her than she was into him at the time, because he asked her to wait for him until her finished with his military service. Well she didn't. She went off and married that Parker-Bowles dude. By 1978-80, she was unhappy in her marriage and started fooling around with Charles again behind her husband's back, but it probably wasn't that big of a problem as he was a philanderer as well. BUT, at that time marrying a divorced woman was out of the question, and Charles was getting alot of pressure from his mother to select a bride. So, he and Camilla conspired together to find someone who would be pliable, someone they cou lo d control and would be too timid to speak up. They planned to carry on with their affair after he married, no matter who the bride was. When Diana came on the radar, they thought she was perfect. She had no past, she was a virgin, she was shy....a mouse. Which is what Camilla called her. And the rest is well documented history.

I have to give it to Diana she was a true princess one of the most fairest. Took her power and wealth privilege that came with being apart of the throne and used it to help people who look totally opposite of her. I want a shirt seriously with Diana in that mine field in Africa. Who does that? Of her stature?? No one.. she was one in a million to say I’m not so important that I can’t help people do something dangerous clean mines from they’re village so that kids aren’t hurt anymore.. It almost makes me emotional you don’t have alotta folks like that anymore. Imagine someone big and powerful doing that going to help others who don’t look like them out of a bad situation.

I'd probably become overwhelmed if I ever had the chance to visit this exhibit. What a great tribute to such an influential human being. How is it that the entire world mourns her death while the royal family doesn't even acknowledge the impact she had in her life. It must be extremely difficult for her children to see all these videos and hear all these stories of her and still have to maintain the image of being strong and unwavering. I'd be heartbroken and a complete mess if that were me. I'm glad I was brought up to express my emotions and feelings outwardly. It's not healthy to avoid them or pocket them away. I don't think Charles has any tbh and perhaps Camilla is content with that. She will never experience love. To be able to do what he did and still carry on like it never happened is in my opinion criminal and should be stripped of his title. Allow Diana to flow through her children and give them the crown. Not that I understand much about the royal family, but thanks to Diana we know more than they had hoped for. They wanted a cookie cutter women to showcase duty and produce Aires. They saw her as an easy target to manipulate and mold into something she knew she wasn't. They had no idea the strength and poise, grace, and versatility Princess Diana had. It's a story that should live on. It's a story that needs to be told. I surely hope we never forget her and the tremendous work she did and the torture she endured. I believe she was a target. I believe she was deemed a threat, and I also believe that now the King had something to do with her death as well as most of the Royal family. They felt they had to get rid of her because she was too popular. They didn't like how she obtained all the attention and needed a way to get rid of her. She was not given proper investigation into how she died. They just said it was and accident and moved on. How disgraceful and dishonorable of the royal family to turn a blind eye. Makes me so sick.

The wedding dress looks like it made of white satin, Diana’s was cream silk taffeta

Exactly. It doesn't look like her real wedding dress - and the real dress was cream/off white and not a snow white color. I also find the mannequin wearing the replica dress and veil over her face creepy - a wedding is supposed to be happy and it's just so sad that Diana married Charles and had such a crap marriage. Just think, if she had never married him, she would most likely be alive today.

"Its unfortunate #DianaPrincessofWales was promised the life as a wife princess and mother to future heirs to throne...but was only met with distain. The life of a princess was only a "fallacy" not a fairytale written in books. Whereas the "knight in shiny armor " comes to rescue the "damsel in distress" which was the truth for the latter. It wasn't in part of happy ending she bargained for. However, the light only shined bright future heirs her sons. The fact of the matter is the charities she desired to bring awareness to the plights of others...was necessary..
