Time to fight off the Ruler of Darkness, Yami! This is it...the final battle! Copyrights to Okami belong to former Clover, ReadyatDawn Studios (for Wii port), and ultimately Capcom.

I actually really liked how you basically only really hear about Yami once, from Ninetails. It sort of makes him the opposite of Amaterasu - Ammy's the center of the pantheon of gods, and the most well known, whereas Yami, as the mastermind of darkness, is so good at manipulating others to do his work that only the highest ranking demons are even aware of him, let alone the rest of the world. Discovering him is supposed to feel like discovering evil's secret.

y'know something Yami has that Akuro never had is symbolism and implication, while Akuro is a lot of a generic antagonist "i will destroy everything" type of guy, Yami's nature is something else, off from the moon runes we see in Yami's armor we can gather he's actually related to the Moon Tribe in a more intimate way, and being described as the origin of all machinery (so most likely Yami is how the Moon Tribe ended up having so many technological wonders), Yami may be a small fetus-like fish inside an ball, but its designs, lack of personality and yet managing to be such an symbol of evil really pushes the message that evil has no reasoning to that way other than it just is, Akuro kinda disappoints as the successor to Yami for that very reason, i hope that if Okami 3 really does happen we get something that really takes what Yami was and pushes it into being even more threatning, i also would love some official origins for Yami because the most that we can gather is off from like 1 moon rune inside his true form's bowl and while thats cool and all i really wanna know who gave this fish a mech and why he possesses the same markings as the gods

The only boss battle where I died. It was horrifying at first because I thought "NONONO! Yami will take over!" Then I realized that I had a completely full Astral Pouch and I went right back up. It made me realize just how much the makers of the game REALLY didn't want you to die. They made it so easy to play through the game without even actually dying once; I bet the reason for this was so the player could experience the game without getting frustrated at constant death, like many other games.

Yeah considering the maker, Hideki Kamiya himself, who is also the maker of Devil May Cry, well known for its difficulty. I mean, he can absolutely make the game as difficult to his desire if he wants to. But it just make no sense, the game wants you to sits back and relax and enjoy the arts while telling a story (which you are a part of interactively) and touching your heart. The difficulty is moderate, to the point where this still reminds that you are playing a game and fighting monsters and giving you that kick, but not to the point where it becomes stressful.

And your point? I love both the protagonists and antagonists equally. I know that they're rivals, but that's entirely the point. The antagonist is ALWAYS the opposite to the protagonist. yami's problems are simple, he got almost no backstory, neither motives(aside from be the god of darkness and the origin of all evil), and he doesnt even talk, putting this things together makes really hard to understand him, bosses like crimsom helm and the twin demons doesnt talk neither, yet you got a good amount of bacstory from the others characters, making you understand what they are and what they do or done, its really funny that bosses like blight and spider queen, who got almost no importance to the plots as general talk. now about yami being a fish, in my concept, he is protected by a large metal sphere that represent sin, no one can ever touch him without purify all those sins, thoses sins make yami menacing and powerful, but when you beat all of those, what rest? a defenseless little creature, yami got his powers from the flaws of his oponnet, but got none from himself.
@ReverendGoose10 жыл бұрын
Yami is the ultimate, formless evil, the mirror of Amaterasu. I think the lack of detail is intentional. To the end he is shrouded in mystery and, well, darkness, which explains his odd appearance, lack of dialogue, everything. It makes an incredible final boss experience. That's what I may have to add, I like your idea on the fish.
@titssnitchtzeentch64910 жыл бұрын
Ryuuji Latham Amaterasu got a backstory, why she is doing everything, but Yami, he is pure evil, the absolute void and darkness, as the idea of the sin, he is empty of everything, so he is evil. Has the evil an origin ? No, so Yami don't have any origin, he is just here, making the darkness, as Amaterasu is here just making the good.

The Forms and Their Meaning of Humanity and Evil: Red Ball = Desire to Destroy Green Ball = Desire to Incinerate Blue Ball = Desire to Gamble and Take Risks Yellow Ball= Desire to Create Machines of Mass Destruction Final Form = Evil Comes From Human Hands Core (Fish) = Evil starts small
@eve6262_7 жыл бұрын
I feel like the final form isn't "Evil comes from human hands" as everyone says it is, but rather the fact that, in the end, it is not the evil that infected humanity, but humanity that created the evil, hence a hand, as hands are often times associated with creation rather than infection.

The Water Dragon (I'll count him as some kind of eel) was for the most part an unstoppable death bringer, and all the other fish encountered (Yami excluded) were canon fodder for minigames. Aw, I'm a little disappointed this doesn't have the original name for the song in-game; "The Emperor of Darkness" If that isn't the name of a final boss theme, I don't know what is.

The beginning of this music is reminiscent of Wawku Shrine and also evokes feelings of cold, but not that of ice, but of machinery. Yami is a great final boss. Of course, if there was one thing to change, it would be the build up to Yami. Great, nonetheless.

@Ilovemariofan I wrote my comment after beating Okamiden. It is really a good sequel. Even if Clover dissapeared, Okami still lives and has a bright future...That is why I want too see more of Yami

my friend and i nicknamed yami "fabio"; a corruption of the acronym "FFIAB" (Fish Fetus In A Ball). plus, it's just damn fun to refer to the lord of darkness as fabio.

Dude, I am Shiranui. That's just the name that the people of Kamiki called me cause they didn't know who I really was.

I think Yami its just an underrated final boss, I mean, come on, maybe its not the typical intimidate monster, instead its only a bal machine with a fetus inside, but come on! He kill all the celestials, and he is the superior of all the monsters, even Orochi! Plus, the fact that if he escaped, all Nippon (and even the world) may be destroyed in an eternal darkness, its just epic, I love all the boss, even Ninetails, but Yami its just one of the best Final Bosses I see, thumbs up of you agree!

My first thought: It's a ball with a hand on it. How bad could this be? [five hours later] HOW HAVE I NOT DONE ANY DAMAGE TO HIM STILL?!?!
@Eyewarp14 жыл бұрын
@NoodlesOmighty I thought Yami was a black koi in a large fish bowl. But I agree with the rest; you just couldn't hear the "IMMA FIRIN' MAH LAZOR" because of said fishbowl. Or because all the characters only speak in gibberish. Still a cool boss.

the theroy is that its supposed to be symbolic that even the weekest/inoccent things can be capable of the biggest evil. plus i bet it was a being of light before akura got his greedy eye on him

either way, Fandom wise they can put Yami in anywhere so i'm not complaining too much. and i love how you have to use nearly every brush technique to fight him

The storyline was absolutely incredible, and I would argue one of, if not the, best gaming story lines of all time. The game managed to invest you so much into each and every character you met, which in turn allowed for them to do some incredible things with the plot while making people still care about it. Don't tell me you didn't at least get some hair standing on end when Oki's sword lit up, or when Amaterasu was revived by the people of Nippon's prayers.

@colonel24567 They didn't go bankrupt, and they've come back as Platinum Games. They've released a few games including Bayonetta which has a bunch of references to Okami, Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe. Heck, the best weapon is Pillow Talk. Yes, that Pillow Talk. Also, Okamiden! You're wrong on both counts, and it must feel great.

@CaptainAnamaria He's a seel thing with no hands. Even in his 4th form it's difficult to hold a paintbrush with what appears to be... idk, energy whips? You'd have to be indiana jones to paint even just a circle with that.

@DRAGOOOOOOOONNNNNNNN I actually think that the way Yami is represented and how symbolic he is is scary in itself. Though, the way he kinda hops around in his first stages kinda gives off the "Zant appeal." By that I mean the character is extremely badass, but turns out to be a bit... not. Yami's final form was great though. Basically all the symbolism and awesomeness is... awesome.

1º form is humanity's evil desire to destroy. To erase existence. 2º form is humanity's evil desire to burn. To cause pain to others. 3º form is humanity's evil desire to gamble. To live without a care and regard for others. 4º form is humanity's evil desire to use it's intellect/technology to violate nature. Final form is humanity's ultimate evil desire to one thing above all: CONTROL EVERYTHING. And Yami's true self: Shows us that no matter how much it tries to hide it, absolute evil is weak and ridiculous at heart. By FAR the most symbolic boss fight I ever saw.

I'm guessing you got that nonsense from Chuggaaconroy, right? It's really sad to see misinformation get spread around like gospel because of one person's lack of research and pushing fanfiction as fact.

no idea about Bowser, but Ganon isn't actually a pig. He's technically a human, or close to a human, he just transformed at the end of OoT to try to kill you.
@kaybaird953612 жыл бұрын
I don't know....I agree that it seems he has little build up. But he's described as the ruler of all darkness. I think Yami was secretly the antagonist the entire time. His spirit (The black smoke) Is what plagued all of Nippon through blight, orochi, ninetails, spider queen- all them. He was built up and explained through the bosses and battles of the past- as more so a force of great evil than an actual character. Just a Theory.

I love how the ultimate lesson of this game is "technology is evil!". It's an amazing game, but seriously Capcom?
@aridicaexmontaudon12962 жыл бұрын
Eh, its more like that technology has the capacity to be evil, just like all of man.
@Mhinx226813 жыл бұрын
Yami is pretty much made of machinery; because mankind thinks its the answer to everything. I like it how Okami has a lot of socio-political commentary in it as well, and its not as mindless as say, most games we play these days.
