Farmers play a crucial role in keeping this country on track, and they deserve recognition and support for the work they do. Regardless of their financial standing, we should be rewarding farmers for their contributions towards making the UK more self-sufficient and ensuring a steady supply of locally-grown food. Farming is physically demanding and requires immense dedication, regardless of weather or season. Most of us would find it hard to do what they do every day, and many would agree that a farmer’s wealth shouldn't matter - it’s about supporting the people who provide for us. Additionally, for those who acquire farmland with no intention of using it for agriculture, the government could introduce policies to ensure land remains for farming and doesn't become a vehicle for tax avoidance. We need solutions that keep farmers motivated and committed, ensuring the high-quality British products we value are available in stores. Let’s support our farmers so that protests and disruptions don’t become a necessity - it's in everyone's best interest to see them thrive..... the exception is the Labour Party!

@ why They are business like others If they hand over to the next generation and live 7 years they have nothing to pay Iv seen to many older farmers holding the business back frustrating their children who work with little or no pay with no input into the business They inherit the farm in their 50’ and have lost their mojo The most successful farmers I know have taken over the farm in their 20’s sometimes due to unfortunate circumstances but drive the business forward !!!!

These people are few and far between. Farming is a full-time gamble. It is not a 9 to 5 job with a holidays and benefits. Next Bank holiday think about whether your local farmers are also having the day off with pay.

@@dayanpillai5124you don’t pay the ingeritence tax for up to £1 million of land plus the £1 million for the home. It’s like £15,000 per acre so that means your farm must be larger than 66 acres minimum as land can be cheaper
@kevincarbb28192 күн бұрын
@@pwners4u The viable farms of 500 acres have a value of 6 to 7 M....these will get a bill of close to £1m...and then in another 30 yrs ..the same again.....This means that there overheads are higher....where do you think paying for the extra cost is coming from....It has to come from higher returns to cover this (meaning higher food costs).....Oh hang on....when prices go up in the Supermarket...You will blame it on Brexit???....Did all socialist go to the same school as Dianne Abbott??? The point you are making about the mega rich buying land to avoid IHT is correct though and surely something could be done about this instead of punishing family farms
@johnpearson4672 күн бұрын
@@pwners4uI expect your a city dweller. Land is only really worth anything financially if sold. Since most farmers it is to produce food there is no great gain owning land. A fairer tax would be if a farm is not used as a farm for 3 years then a tax should be applied. It could quite easily be implemented through HMRC.

If I thought for one moment that my own offspring might have to work for a living like everyone else instead of having it all handed to them on a plate I'd be gutted. Someone with zero idea how agricultural knowledge that has a household income many times that of the average household. Incomes well below the public sector workers he has spent numerous years tell us are hard done by. If you are cash poor and asset rich then the only way to access this 'wealth' would be to sell it then you have to pay capital gains tax anyway. You would also lose your means of agricultural production. It's like saying the NHS is rich because it has high value properties and equipment so trust should sell their hospitals to private care providers to help the government generate more money to build houses for our growing social care needs.

That left-wing guy is quite right to say the reason land prices have gone up so much is because there has been no inheritance tax for the last 40 years. People are just buying it, knowing that they will never get tax on it. This actually works against farmers, because they’ve Gotta pay more for the land, and a true farmer only buys land he never sells it
