@@johnw574These days many wives of farmers go out to work to help with the farm finances. They may work full-time, many work part-time BUT when they get home they may have kids to look after but will also have their own duties around the farm plus prepping food for the workers. Silage and lambing times are extremely busy and most wives are up till late helping out and feeding livestock. When things get busy at nighttime they have to get out of bed to help out. Then are the usual jobs of feeding the animals and taking care of the sick ones. Most of this is done in cold, wet, dirty conditions with the British weather usually against them. Then back to the farm to get cleaned up for bed then up for work the next day. They’re constantly battling the chore of washing and drying the whole families mucky overalls and outer work gear. Clothing which takes a long time to dry out. Then, of course, they have to fit in the blessed paperwork the Government wants. Life is full-time on a farm for the wives, not 9-5 as in office work, where most go home for tea, play and early nights as for the majority of working families. Farming is full-time 24/7 in all weather conditions.

Inheritance tax should be of much higher threshold like 10 million above to be fair in today’s situation. 500 thousands is too low for ordinary people, 1 million is way too low for farmers! Because these are not real ‘rich’ people.
