The greatest of all time? With three World Championship wins, three World Cup overall titles, 21 World Cup wins, and 78 World Cup podiums during an eighteen year career that shows no sign of slowing down; Greg Minnaar is amongst the best in the sport. Oakley invited GMBN out to Greg’s home in South Africa to find out his thoughts on racing, training, and playing a part in product design. One such product Greg has had a hand in designing is Oakleys new trail helmet, the DRT5. Find out more about this helmet using the link below👇

Global Mountain Bike Network, style which he fails to exhibit at 4:10 when he wears his sunglasses on the inside of his helmet straps. But kidding aside he is a legend.

As he said, to be consistent, to have a clear goal and be as competitive as you can and try your best every time. Easier said than done of course. But it is a pattern of behaviour you find in successful people, they never give up and try over and over again until they find something that works and do that until it stops working, and the cycle starts over.

The reason why Greg is the best is not only because of his great results, but he is an innovator and he is not afraid to take a chance, to risk something. The move to the V10 29er will, in the future, be a seminal moment in not only DH racing, but mountain biking generally. Before Greg, 29ers were for XC riders but it is his and Santa Cruz's innovation that revived the wheel size to where it is the go-to choice for DH, Enduro and Fun Trail riding. And to top it all, he is just a super nice guy.

I did my first ever race at Karkloof. It was really memorable. I had a Macro special of a bike (cheap and a bit nasty) with double suspension as I called it in High school. This video did something to me. Thank you. Gonna go there again when I visit my folks in Mooi River, KZN Midlands - rock on! Go Greg, proud of you.
