Back when I was driving I noticed how many old trucks had survived in the Rust Belt states. In PA and NY state especially. It really was like time warp when it came down to trucks (& a few buses) Many of these were solid like the green GMC here just waiting for a loving new owner to take them away. Except for the floor the GMC is a great candidate for restoration & so is the Astro.

The 860 is one of my favorite trucks ever. I was too young to know many details, but my steel-hauler neighbor across the road in rural Richland County retired his 860 for a Crackerbox. All I can remember is it was a tandem tag and it made a LOT of Detroit noise. I remember looking out our front window and seeing it across the road in the field until someone finally bought it and drove it away. I always wanted to drive one some day. But what I REALLY want to drive is a long-nose 9500 with a Buzzin' Dozen. Someday....maybe...

Good morning Dane, You find some nice trucks in your part of the country. I'm surprised at how good that 860 looks on the inside. The driver seat looks bad, but that's pretty common on older trucks. I'm not sure what year the Freightliner is, I'm guessing it's an early 80's or newer. One thing about the Transtar, unless it was an Eagle, they had a plain dash. The Eagle had the fake wood, but it looked lots nicer. Just my opinion. Have a wonderful day sir. And keep those videos of those old trucks coming. I've seen a few where I live, nothing as nice as what you find.

Unfortunate that the owner was inhospitable, but that’s how it goes sometimes…perhaps he might be more amenable in the future. Porter greetings to ya! 🇺🇸 Yeah, I get in so much trouble when I’m out in the road cause I’m rubber neck in for old trucks in the field or behind the buildings.🧐 I’m just always looking for old cars & trucks! Good catch! My dad had an 860 bus back in the day that someone had intentions of making a motor home out of but didn’t finish. They weren’t always my favorite, it I did. Think that they were pretty cool! To think of it, I never got to hear that old 860 run. Shame! I liked all of these trucks!🥰 The 860 really needs some help, but is still worth it. The owner must still like the cabovers. What about the yard truck? Those are cool, too. Not much to them, for the most part, but a little unique. It’s good that you missed out on lunch then. Hope that you did get some food for the bellies. You sure had plenty of eye candy with these trucks!🥰 Maybe the owner was having a bad day or something like that. Good stuff! 🥰😎✌️

860s were only built with the 6-71, but there were similar models called 800 that had option of 503 inline gas, or the rare 4-71T. '57 was the first year for turbo 4-71s and 6-71s, as well as air suspension . The 900 series could have had a 6-71T starting in '57. Brand X engines weren't installed at the GMC factory until the early '60s .

There's a guy running a solid White Transtar 2 got a mild factory stretch to it. Pulls a 53 ft van Runs up I 71 thru Cincinnati for Nalls Specialized Elizabeth town KY. Dual stacks with the bright mufflers. It's GOURGOUS. I say hi when I see it. I'd run any one of those rides. That 860 needs a Roadway style dolly tag axle so is can pull my container chassis. Hook up a 40 ft spread axle Ravens or City covered wagon to those 3 cabovers. Then you'd be a steel hauler Pennsylvania style.
