Acadia, Outlooks and other 3.6VVT engines before 2013 tend to leak oil into the intake and the exhaust. You can also have cat codes because of this. They use to use faulty valve cover gaskets that they changed in 2013. Next time you don't have to remove the air box. You can detach the MAF sensor from both the throttle and the air box. The only way to completely get rid of the problem is to swap out the valve cover gaskets. Keep up the work. It's always better to learn for yourself. 👍🏾

I have a 2013 and have oil in the intake. Perhaps I have an early model 2013 with the old gaskets? Would it be worth it to try and replace them before mess with the PCV system?

Well done, hopefully this cures my issues. That “doohickey” that wasn’t in the video you watched is the air intake breather tube. And this explains so much. My wife’s throws a light for the catalytic converter, and this may have saved a lot of money. Also, you shouldn’t need a video hand, that’s what Lindsay is for!!! Auto Zone will run free diagnostics but the check engine light needs to be on to do it. And Acadias burn oil, I’d say leak but my garage floor is clean of oil so it’s not leaking. Update* NO oil in air intake and throttle body was extremely clean. Back to the beginning with this. *Another update. I’ll be replacing the throttle body assembly this week. That should fix the issue.

I cleaned the throttle body on my Malibu. Lord have mercy. Upon startup rpms at 3000. Needed a relearn. SMFH

Yay, you kilt it Beth, job well done. One thing though, change the pcv valve it's stuck open hence all the oil in the doheky and oil consumption. Thank you for posting.

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely try cleaning my TB before having it replaced. Out of nowhere on my Acadia this week, all of these lights just came on. Luckily, I have a second vehicle I can drive. But I still want to get on top of fixing this sooner than later.

Well done! The oil in the intake tube is a known issue and can easily be dealt with. You can change the valve cover gasket to the new revised version or easier and cheaper. Replace the pcv valves (there are two). This requires a drill to open the stock holes on the pcv valves. There are tons of vids on this mod and it is recommended.

The low oil issue is most likely being caused by plugged up PCV valves, primarily the one near the back firewall, which causes the oil to back up into/leave sludge in the throttle body/ air intake manifold, and, if left unfixed, will also build up in the air cleaner hose and, in extreme cases, all the way into the air filter/housing. Regardless, Ive learned that the only way to fix the MANY problems in a GMC Acadia is to push it off/in the nearest cliff/body of water, report it stolen, get that insurance money and buy ANYTHING other than an Acadia. 👍🏼

My acadia just turned service stabilitrak and traction control light and whenever i press the gas pedal to increase speed i feel like is trying to brake and keep going like jerking (no weird sound) is this what your vehicle was doing? I took it to a shop but i have no codes on the memory stored…it only does it if i press the gas pedal harshly or to start after a traffic light. The mechanic had my car over the weekend and my guess is they were lazy and only plugged the computer to later charge me for something crazy expensive.😢

From what I understand, you can't open an electronic TB flap by hand. Did this create a problem?

You can move the flap slowly. I was trained not to allow it to slam shut, but apparently it didn’t damage anything for this person.

Or you can turn on the key but not start the car, and have someone step on the gas. Why take a chance on damaging the gears in the tb?

Change your oil every 4,000 kilometres with that their vehicle because if you do not change the oil very frequently on that motor the timing chain will stretch and you will blow your engine

Did the fix hold up, did the problem come back? I think this is what I need to do to my acadia. Mine the check engine light comes on along with swrvice stablitrak, stbilitrak off AND engine reducing power, then the engine shuts off.

You need to modify the pcv valve that is on the back of the engine near the firewall. That will eliminate all the oil in the air intake tube. That oil pooling on the top of the transmission is not good!
