This is an inaccurate explanation of this AWD system. The Borg Warner 4485 transfer case is a 60/40 planetary open diff with no clutches, but the stabilitrac keeps traction by braking individual wheels when they spin. So you basically have front and rear lockers as long as all the wheel speed sensors are working. BUT, you don't have low range, and you're screwed if you lose a CV joint or any U-joint since you don't have 4HI LOC like the H2 or old NP203 trucks. So if anything at all breaks, the open center diff leaves you stranded. I have an '07 Denali Yukon that's already fairly impressive off road, all things above considered, but I'm looking into a BW4484 swap from an H2 with a standalone controller or manual linkage. That way i can retain my AWD function with the addition of 4HI LOC and 4LO options. You know the setup kinda sucks since they went back to standard part-time 4wd with the current Denali trucks.
@juancho72365 жыл бұрын
Carlton Wilkinson Did you ever do the swap? I’m looking right now for a Yukon 4WD or Denali for a mostly highway Overland build but with off-road capability. Your explanation is what makes me shy away a little from the Denali. Thanks!

Delete the AFM and they're bullet proof. I got one. But mine is an 08 so no AFM. AFM is 2012 and 2013 only.
@cw63716 жыл бұрын
The transfer case is the weak point. Change your fluid with every oil change if you want it to last. The input shaft and front output sprocket have nothing but a bushing between them. When that goes, the sun gears and planetaries have excessive strain on each other and send metal shards through the whole case and make it a nice addition to your scrap metal pile.
