It's sad cos many people don't realise that going after Kramnik means going after a large part of the Russian chess community which includes top GMs (Nepo included). Danya is fluent in Russian and is able to keep up with the ongoing Russian consensus. Kramnik still has a large amount Russian supporters who i presume still play. Not addressing these allegations when accused also means that you automatically get a horde of accusations and suspicions. When word is passed on the ground by the horde, the narrative is easily lost and Danya can easily lose his reputation amongst those who are not up to date Hikaru is at the top in terms of chess and popularity. Right now it has 100,000 audience AND more than half consider Kramnik crazy old neighbor and make fun of the clown. Levitov however pushes the "non-accusations" and this way can stay on top of hype. Last I heard Nepo was giving excuses for why Christopher Yoo battering a woman at the St. Louis Chess Club shouldn't get you banned from the club. Who honestly cares what Nepo thinks? He'll always be Magnus' pet anyway.
@ytpanda3982 ай бұрын
Whilst this is definitely not good, let's not exaggerate and say Yoo battered someone. In the technical sense yes, but there is no need to use more extreme language than is appropriate. I still think he should be at the very least suspended

I initially thought Kramnik had a point when he started calling out cheaters some time ago, but it has now escalated into complete paranoia and a witch hunt. Even if cheating is an issue, this approach is not the solution. It feels more like bullying, and it's damaging both chess and the enjoyment of the game.
@Sonic_Boom_252 ай бұрын
You do not have to put up the cyberbullying from Kramnik ever. Kramnik is digusting and you do not deserve any of this toxicity and hatred. Keep on being yourself and I will support you as a person no matter what decisions you make Hikaru.

I remember Ian saying something similar about Gukesh on C squared. Just because he said he wasn't devastaed about the time scramble loss against Alireza probably means cheating. Ian proving all the Russian stereotypes when it comes to chess.

Yep, Nepo said something along the lines of "maybe the organisers should have paid attention to my prediction" - alluding to his complaints about Gukesh. Why else would a player need to make "predictions" to the tournament organiser? Was he not expecting to win?

I don't understand why it's so hard for these top players to realize that blitz and classical require different skills. Furthermore, Hikaru has crossed the 2800 threshold in classical. Ian Nepomniatchi has not. From that alone, even someone who wasn't a chess player would easily assume Hikaru is the better player.

The problem is, Kramnik still enjoys a lot of respect for his world championship victories and his high level in the game. He's done significant work with the Indian chess community, helping multiple up and coming GMs increase their level. Not to mention he's quite the chess star in Russia and many former combloc countries. Between India and the Russian-speaking world, that's a pretty large number of fans who will proceed to harass Danya on his social media even if he blocks Kramnik.

I agree that there shouldn't be any cheating in Chess, or anywhere else for that matter. Although, The way Kramnik goes about things is quite distasteful. Furthermore, He advocates fair play when he himself has played from someone else's account (from what I have heard). It seems that the only way to silence him is either to play him or block him.

I think this is one of those rare instances where bad publicity IS bad publicity. Rather than creating a bunch of drama and excitement behind the board, all of this has only served to call the character of chess players and chess tournament organizers into question. Especially when the claims of up to 50% of Titled Tuesday players being "suspected" of cheating do nothing but bolster Kramnik's daily accusations.
