Where these kids are coming from? Turkiye Is Bankasi, the leading bank of Turkey has been supporting chess since 2005. They kickstarted over 40.000 chess classes in elementary and secondary schools and supported chess clubs. They even opened chess classes in orphanages and for blind people. Since then, licensed chess players in Turkey has soared to 1.200.000+ as of 2023 from a modest 50-60k in 2005, surprassing any other sport by a huge margin. Eventhough the Bank has suportted chess on country level, they were not able to support individual efforts as much yet. We needed sponsor for guys like Ediz & Yağız and this is where Evren Üçok, a former chess player and co-founder of Turkey's first unicorn/decacorn, Trendyol came in. He gave necessary funds for further training of the boys for personel coaches and other needed sponsorships (I know he supports Yagiz, not sure about Ediz though). So I think we can praise Turkiye Is Bankasi as the gold mine and Evren Ucok as the goldsmith.

If Ediz would'nt have played last match of the tournament and let down his team, he would win gold, because he had tie in the last game. Simply not paying would give him gold instead of bronze (he could even be 4th). But he played for his team and Turkey won the match scoring 12th in general. Last match was 2.5-1.5, halfpoint coming from Ediz's tie.
