I think hikaru just never misses a good move. He’ll always spot a hanging queen because he’d always catch it even blindfolded. He knows which squares are safe and which are not at all times. At the 1000 level, we wouldn’t spot it like he can

The problem is that a 1300 is just smart enough to think "my opponent took 2 seconds to move so they probably didn't calculate more than a move out. Neither will I, so I can keep up on time" so they get absolutely sauced in spectacular fashion

Think it like this: Once i attack that piece can he move it? Nop, it's pinned to the queen. Can he ignore my attack? Nop, he has no meaningful counterattack. Can he defend it? Yes. Can i prevent him from defending it? Yes. Will this move give him the opportunity to move it's rook and not get sauced? Yes. Is he going to see that? Nop he's a 1300.

The reason they make so many blunders is that he is playing off beat/ bad openings (grob, pawn flinging). They are unfamiliar with these types of opening positions, and therefore are prone to blunder early and often. If he played standard E4, D4, etc. openings they could probably get a couple more moves before he crushed them. My rating is around 2000 and he would do same to me with these weird openings with forks, 10 move checkmates etc.

Heh! I love the out loud calculation: takes, takes, takes.....I don't know why 1300s think they are that great- there is a HUGE difference between a 1300 and even an IM or anyone above 2000. They may not make too many noobie blunders, but I can't guarantee they would be able to take advantage of any GM blunder or even questionable move. Hikaru you were probably about 1300 as a 7 year old.
