Minor correction, lichess uses Fairy-Stockfish 14.1, a Stockfish made to play chess varients, not Stockfish 15.1, the current newest and best version of Stockfish.

@ChessDejavu If you look at the fishnet source code, you can see that Level 8 is equivalent to playing strength 20, depth 22, 1000ms evaluation. So it only runs for 1 second at most at level 8.

@@kingsolo6241 Its not a level, 15 is the version. Levels are things that force stockfish to play poor moves every once in a while so its beatable by humans, stockfish without using levels is pretty much just impossible to beat or even draw(with a human opponent)

@@pawncube2050 when you open up Stockfish. It clearly says level 15 if you choose it. What are you talking about. However Hikaru is only playing with 3200 elo which is level 10-11. Level 15 is around 3600 elo. There are different option you can choose as well. Open up Stockfish and you’ll see very clearly.

I once drew stockfish 8 from position, king vs knight and bishop, it couldn't make the checkmate before 50 moves. I don't know how that works even tho it has access to endgame database.

It's because you can't force checkmate with just a knight and a bishop. In order for you to lose it takes bad moves on your part for the opponent to win.

Stockfish FTW!! To be honest, Even with black pieces, stockfish play more like a real human than Mittens and thsts the difference. The blunder Mittens didnwith his pawn, its a blunder for players under 1200 Elo. There always a way to "trick" engine in end game by repeating some move. Stockfish did well, im really proud 🐟

Mittens is just komodo 14 with the positional personality enabled, stockfish on lichess was using a lower depth, but komodo was always tuned using human evaluation terms

If you set a computer to infinite or unlimited time, you must then force it to move. Alternatively, if you set it to a specific ply level, you need to be careful because some engines are very sensitive to even plies vs. odd plies, and they will sometimes vastly under-perform using one or the other exclusively. We need to know the time conditions for this match, and also whether both engines had access to the same book moves. M-Chess was notorious in the mid 1990s for _"out-booking"_ its competition, and as such, it could occasionally exit its _"cooked book"_ line at an eval of +5 or greater, when it should be close to equal! To be fair, both programs should begin with access to the same book, or should begin from a known, equal beginning. - j q t -
