Hey Igor, you have had some great posts on this channel, but this one was the most instructive yet. Such a subtle and masterful explanation on these principles to assist those of us not as advanced as most. It is appreciated and so thoughtful for you to spend time on posts for less skilled players and beginners. Thanks so much!👍

I guess you could then disconnect the two black pieces with the light-squared bishop, and if black trades you have either knight to recapture, putting it on a better position in the center.

4:20 You missed a tricky drawing opportunity for black, after Nf6, a7, Nd5, a8=Q, black is just in time to fork the king and queen on c7, so white has to be careful and play Kc6 to stop the forking square.

13:53 What's shown next is played by a lot of Jobava London players. Just be aware that Bxe5 is also common...and better (in terms of human playability) despite SF evaluating them equally. When played correctly, the best you can hope for in that case is coming out of the battle down a pawn. Most will struggle to not barf up two pawns. But it can be much worse.

i know that in chess we need to attack by moving forward mainly in opponent's half of the board and if not possible immediately we need to prepare an attack for the next move making it with piece development at the same time if possible. but we also need to check what our opponent wants to do to avoid blunders , infiltrations , etc. My question is: when it is my turn to play is better to think first on my attack or on my opponent plan? i only want to know how GMs think specificly. Thanks

@Smol_PCАй бұрын
@@weeblordgaming6062 My first idea: after black castles, white can go Qh5 to add another attacker, black would play h7, white would play nxf7 since only the king and rook is defending the pawn. Black is in danger of a discovered attack, if black doesn't take with rook, then they lose tempo by moving queen and next move getting discovered check. If rook takes, white is happy after recapturing and has a better initiative to attack. I'm 1200-1300 elo btw, this is what I see.

@MoonjuroАй бұрын
If you're under like 1800-2000 elo or smth like that just forget opening theory altogether. Opening theory doesn't matter in lower ratings. Just stick to a single opening for white and another for black and ignore these useless opening traps and gambits, not like you're gonna memorize them all anyway. Instead focus on understanding key patterns and solve lots of tactics/puzzles. Also try reading a chess book like "How to Beat Your Dad at Chess"

Igor might very well be my favorite chess teacher. He's everything a teacher should be, and then some. The primary reason why he's a fantastic teacher is because he is *pleasant and friendly.* He understands that you're probably not going to know _everything_ and instead of going on long rants about the wrong move and wondering why you would do that, he just calmly explains the mistake (and everything else you can do wrong) before stating what you _should_ do. I remember watching that (in)famous Ben Finegold "why people never get good" video, and I turned it off after five minutes. I did that because Ben is a textbook example of how *NOT* to be a good teacher. Unlike Igor, Ben is, to put it very bluntly, a gigantic asshole. *Completely unlikeable.* Call it "brutal honesty" or whatever you want; it doesn't do anything to excuse the fact that he's extremely rude, and thus incredibly discouraging. Like, imagine you're in school again, and you're having trouble understanding the material for an assignment. Would you rather have: *Igor,* who will calmly explain the problem and walk you through how to do the assignment, OR *Ben,* who will do nothing but berate and demoralize you, in addition to just making you feel completely stupid and worthless in general, until he finally gets to actually helping you? I don't know about you, but for me the decision is _extremely_ clear. Long story short: The chess world needs a lot more Igor Smirnovs, and a lot less Ben Finegolds. Maybe then, struggling beginners won't feel so discouraged.

Oops, taking with the Queen in your opening example is not a blunder. White is likely winning and if black takes the rook he loses for sure.

Modern Chess has been ruined by pawn promotion. Simply advanceing pawn to end of board is way overpowered. Through the history of all chess it was never unlimited promotion. The old way was you can only promote to a piece you lost- so you can never have two queens- or it became a piece that could move 1 space diagonally. Until that rule is changed back to how it should be consider modern chess ruined-
@getcloveryourselfАй бұрын
Easy solution, don't let your opponent push a pawn all the way down the board
@Georgewalsh10021 күн бұрын
But I think that’s a worthy reward for that kinda fight! Pawn advancements would be ignored if the reward wasn’t great!
@3isallwesee21 күн бұрын
@@Georgewalsh100 The fact remains was never done all the way up to the 1800s the furthest it went was trading a piece that had been taken and if no piece was taken it stayed till a piece was available or was made into a new piece that could move 1 square diagonally like a bishop that can move one square two queens is not normal for the game of chess it wasnt how it was designed. It makes it too easy
