The guy that that Grimaldus mentioned is commasar Sebastian Yarrick. This man is a legend, not because he earned the respect of a space marines, but he was chosen by Ghazgskull Mag Uruk Thraka as his arch nemesis. And because of this the Orks were convinced that Yarrick was a god of war due to how he mange to fight and kill a warboss in melee combat(which is considered suicide to normal humans) and made the other Orks flee as he raised the power klaw of the now dead warboss and made it his prosthetic arm. Also the guys you saw was the PDFs (planetary defense force), and they use the "kantreal" pattern lasgun. And the weapons that the Orks were using were shoota (scrapped or destroyed bolters, but their mostly destroyed ones). And the aircraft that Grimaldus and friends (his squad, high marshal and emperor's champion were in). Also the tank you guys saw is called a baneblade heavy tank.

For a space marine to apologize to a mere human guardsman is EXTREMELY rare especially for a Black templar as they are pretty holier than thou. Grimadlus is pretty out of sorts and he was more embarrassed at himself for his lack of self control, he is mostly depressed because he thinks that he will die in hellsreach and that his death will be pointless and inglorious. As a side note people don't often realize that for those 9 days of organizing Grimaldus was awake pretty much the entire time as space marines can go for weeks or even months without sleep as one of there geneseed organs lets them selectively switch off parts of there brain while still remaining conscious and aware.

When Grimaldus mentioned that there were over 900 Astartes, what he meant was there were over 900 Black Templars. This war was so huge that there were dozens of chapters present and over 50,000 Space Marines total during the Third War for Armageddon. A number not seen since the Horus Heresy (arguably the most significant event in the Warhammer 40k saga)

Commissar Yarrick doesn't look like he's aged because he literally hasn't. The orks believe in the badassery of Yarrick so hard that it has literally kept him alive for over a century at essentially the same physical age. Because how could a humie that can kill a Warboss die to something as puny as 'old age'?

That's rumour and fan speculation. Truth is, powerful servants of the Imperium have access to chemical, medical, and technological methods for prolonging their lives and vitality, and many generals, admirals, senior commissars, Inquisitors, and other powerful individuals may live for two or three centuries before their bodies finally fail.

The zombie looking guy at the start of episode 4 was a Servitor; a lobotomised criminal, augmented and designated to carry out a particular set of menial tasks, most of the time drugged and always in pain, and many have episodes of insanity where they remember or behave as before they were altered. It's quite horrible. The floating skull is a Servo-Skull, the brain of its owner still working. They come from exceptional citizens granted the honor of serving beyond death. They, like servitors, carry out simple tasks; most commonly relaying messages, or acting as flying video cameras, taking record of events.

Kinda yes, kinda no. They'll take a defensive role when needed, and be excellent at it. There's a reason Helbrecht took command of the orbital defense. The Templars just overall favor attacking over defending, because they see themselves as heirs of the Great Crusade - expanding the Imperium, rather than just defending it.

@@GMineo Basically, if you're poor in the Imperium, you won't live past 50. If you're rich and powerful in the Imperium, you'll probably live for three hundred years, or more in some cases. Space Marines live about 300 years on average, and age very slowly, but can live basically indefinitely if something doesn't kill them. Tech-Priests and other important servants of the Adeptus Mechanicus tend to live a very long time mainly by replacing their body parts with machinery over centuries.

Basically Brady was right most of the time, all of the zombie-like humans that you saw in the video where servitors. Lobotomized humans that serve as working inteligent machines, doing the job that in other universes would've been done by artificial inteligence , AI is considered in the imperium "Abominable Inteligence" due to a previous galaxy wide war against the "men of iron" (who where basically skynet from terminator) before the Imperium was formed. Even more than that, the adeptus mechanicus, considers the ultimate sin that a machine is fully sentient because the AI to them is Silica Animus (an artificial human soul) a mockery of the soul of humanity and Blasphemous beyond words. The exception to "most of the time" that I said before is the servo skull, while they're technically still some sort of servitor, they're viewed as helpful familiars, they're the souls of outstanding human citizens and administrators that are blessed with a life of service beyond death. Opposed to the regular servitors they're left remaining parts of their contience, they have a variety of jobs that require this, from recollecting data form a warzone to give information to comanders that are away from the front lines to document imperial history by being in the thick of the moment. Last thing, It its not only rare that an astartes gives thanks to a mortal human, as a citizen of the imperium you're more likely to win the lotery than to see a Space marine in your whole life, Astartes are so rare that, in a galaxy of Trillions of souls, they make barely a million of them.
@GMineo

Thank you for all this! We've seen so much about the Astartes that we kinda thought they were more of a populus than you let on, but it makes sense. In terms of the servitors we learned recently that ai can be attacked by chaos demons, does that happen with servitors as well?

1:16 - This is a flashback of 50 years, back to the Second War for Armageddon, the first time Ghazkul attacked. (On a side note, the First War was removed from Imperial records because it involved Chaos and the Inquisition doesn't like people knowing Chaos exists.) 2:54 - We'll address this later when we see the end of this flashback. 3:38 - That is the Sign of the Aquila. It's basically the Imperial version of the Sign of the Cross. It's used as a standard greeting in the Imperium, as well as a mark of respect. You'll note that the sign resembles the two-headed Imperial eagle symbol you see everywhere in 40K. 4:38 - Imagine how disappointed he'll be when he learns only 100 of those Black Templars are going to be staying in Helsreach. And by the way: the fight's still a week and a half away at this point. 4:48 Yeah, that's the guy from before. He is Commissar Sebastian Yarrick, the Hero of Hades Hive. During the Second War for Armageddon, he led the Imperial forces at Hades Hive after the hive's governor abandoned the hive to the orks. He single-handedly turned the war around (and not just because he lost his arm in that duel we saw earlier. We'll see the ending a little later.) Keep in mind that a Commissar is not usually a command officer, so the fact that he successfully took command of the entire war effort is a sign of how remarkably skilled he is. Today he is referred to as the 'Old Man' of Armageddon. It is also notable that Yarrick was such a fierce opponent that Ghazkul Thraka GENUINELY respects him. In fact, popular theory holds that the reason Yarrick is still alive by the time of the Third War is that since Ghazkul doesn't want Yarrick to die (except by his hand), the _POWAH UV DA WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGHHHHH!!!!!_ keeps him alive for Ghazkul to fight. If you want to know more, you can watch the Hammer and Bolter episode 'Ole Bale Eye' on Warhammer TV. 6:50 - As I noted in the previous video, the Black Templars have no interest in holding Imperial territory, just conquering new lands and killing the Imperium's enemies. Although you are partially right about Grimaldus looking for glory, and his desire to take the fight to the enemy rather than sitting and waiting for them, Grimaldus' real ire here is related to his uneasiness brought about by his premonitions of death. He thought he'd escaped, then Helbrecht told him he was staying behind. It should also be noted that Grimaldus is creating a serious breach in decorum here. He's questioning his commanding officer's orders loudly and belligerently in the presence of not only his own subordinates, but in front of the representatives of other branches of the defending forces. It's a sign of his lack of experience that he allowed himself to make such a downright childish outburst. Like Helbecht said, this is NOT the time. 10:09 - The kind of guy who became the first EVER named character model for the Imperial Guard. And you know what...? 10:24 - ...he uses that Power Claw himself now. (Arguably another sign that Da WAAAAAAAARGH!!!! favors him, since ork tech only works if THEY think it does.) 11:31- THAT is a servitor. Much like in the Dune universe, humanity had it's own Robot Uprising in the distant past. As a result, AI (or Abominable Intelligences) are strictly forbidden, as are any computer ('cogitator') systems that approach that level of sophistication. The Mechanicus creates a loophole for this by building high-functioning computers out of biological components. One of the offshoots of this is that the roles robots fill in other sci-fi universes (or indeed in other races in 40K) are filled by servitors: mind-scrubbed humans outfitted with cybernetics and programed to fulfill a single task. Most servitors (including the ever revolting cybernetic cherubs) are created from vat-grown clones, but a great many are created as punishment for criminals who have committed particularly heinous crimes, such as heresy. This poor bastard is probably a warehouse worker (read: forklift). 15:11 - It varies from chapter to chapter, but most Space Marines are so far removed form their former humanity that they forget that protecting them is part of what they're created for. They fight more for the idea of the Imperium and because it's what they were created to do than out of a desire to defend the Imperium's citizens. The most noteworthy exception to this is, of course, the Salamanders chapter of Space Marines, which will come into play later in the story. I should also note, now that more of the supporting cast has been introduced, that this version of the Helsreach story trims several secondary plot lines, particularly in the last few episodes. I suggest reading the full novel to get the whole story. 19:03 - This is another example of Grimaldus' inexperience and his itch to avoid the doom his premonitions give him. He was going to ask if there was any way they could help the battle in orbit, but after a moment he realized that it was just his own selfish motivations that were driving him, as well as realizing the poor face he was putting on to his supporting staff. He's gotten control of himself now, and he's ready to get back to his duty.

Grimaldus had a premonition of dying poorly and in vain on Armageddon. He saw the orbital war as a way out of that. Seemed to be mostly that he felt unworthy of being Reclusiarch after Mordred's death, and he was largely being a poor leader because he was in a funk over it. His brilliance will shine through, though, and eventually he gets his head right.

Keep in mind that Grimaldus was raised to the Sword Bretheren, then the Chaplaincy, and then the position of Reclusiarch very young. He was the youngest ever Sword Brother. Mordred, especially, saw greatness in Grimaldus that Grimaldus did not see. Helbrecht made him Marshal of the ground forces as a trial by fire - rise to greatness, and maybe not die.
