@the_real_Kurt_Yarish Жыл бұрын
From what information I gathered back when this place was first entering the limelight, the property was once a church of some denomination, and the buildings on the property were conjoined/added-to and sold as a residence. Someone bought it, and used the place as an online distribution center for shady/illegally acquired products. This is why things are "organized", and why there are "office" spaces and communal areas. After getting caught and presumably arrested, the place was listed for sale once again, which is where the virtual tour listing comes in. The place gained popuparity for its strange layout and cluttered spaces, and people would elect friends to complete "challenges" as an excuse to explore the place (the most famous being "find the bathtub", but there were others like "find the cat" or "find the collection of Xbox 360's"). The listing was removed and relisted a few times, before eventually being taken down for apparently the final time.

Hurray! I recommended this in the comments like a year ago, I'm glad you finally found a unique way to do it I believe it was originally a church and connected parishioner's house that changed hands several times until it was owned by someone running an ebay business. I think a lot of the "stock" turned out to be bootlegs (the computers were for ripping and burning discs), but the guy running it was arrested for something different and the state foreclosed on his home with everything in it. The "bathtub" is a baptismal font, here in the south it's either that or a river.
@NathanDavisVideos Жыл бұрын
You are actually correct. It was originally a church (according to a website or a couple, it was originally called the "Bonaventure Boulevard Church of Christ.") and it turns out to been part of a police raid as well. A man by the name of Troy Curtis was arrested due to many stuff being stolen and also involvement in organized crime (sort of like I guess mob stuff or even selling stolen products). The house portion, where you start out in, I believe predates the church itself by a couple years.

Used to work security at an old office building that was built in the 20s. It was mostly filled with lawyers and insurance people, but at one time it was a cathouse and a half dozen other things. Most of the floors were totally normal and pretty aesthetically cool, reasonably 'modern' with tons of cool wood styling everywhere, but open the wrong office door and you'd suddenly find yourself in a totally wrecked abandoned room with furniture that literally looked 80 yrs old. Plenty of weird spaces from all the renovations too, and small areas you couldn't access anymore between the new walls. One back hallway had this weird room that had like half of the wall removed, so I guess it worked as a ticket counter at some point, but there was zero natural light in that hallway, so you'd just round the corner on patrol on third shift, suddenly find yourself in pitch black, glance over towards that counter and be gazing into an even darker empty void. I'd also been listening to this guy's videos so that didn't help. Thanks a lot Librarian! lol

With your comment about anemoiapolis or however it's spelled. I did find it almost too clean in a lot of ways, especially in the mall/theater/retail spaces. A lot of the spookiness with those spaces is the unkemptness. Dimly lit from poorly maintained lighting and a layer of discoloration and filth. Lots of little broken openings in the walls and ceilings and random bits of this and that strewn around, lots of stuff missing, making it unclear what a lot of stuff used to be. That's much more engaging to me than the more almost clinically clean look, but that also has its own vibe, like a world created artificially to house people made by aliens or someone who don't really understand the purpose.

A bit of backstory for those who are interested: This was a questionable legitimate family owned business. It’s been raided by the police several times for things such as tax evasion, and buying stolen goods. If I remember the lore, The Bathtub originally had some Adult DVD lying around, in addition to a secluded back aisle in one of the DVD sales rooms, which was an entire half-aisle behind a curtain of adult content. First they blurred the bathtub DVD, then they removed the link to the adult corner, then the house entirely. It was a challenge to find anything in here specifically because the nature of the site means you jumped from floating i to floating i, getting a 360 of each. Good photogrammetry uses hundreds or thousands of 360 photos to piece together a scene. This had like, 48 for the entire house, and with so many identical aisles, esp 8:36 , so you'd never truly know if you've been to a spot before and you wouldn't have the reference of walking from one i to another to judge distance or relative location.

I am nearly positive this used to be a church. The weird bath is a baptismal fount. I was fairly certain before the no clip, but once you no clipped out and I saw where everything was oriented to that bath, I knew it had to be. It would’ve been in the very front of the sanctuary. They have walled it off to make it private. So this was probably just an old church that closed its doors in the middle of a neighborhood. Perfect for such an underground sales business as this appeared to be, but also a place that never could’ve been zoned for such a business.

I think the reason that this place feels so weird layout wise is that it was renovated into more rooms either illegally or before building codes were active in the area (I think illegally, since the place doesn’t look quite that old). You can see this written small in some old houses that have been added to over the years: really choppy layouts, like several rooms were just stuck on one after the other at random, or what used to be a bigger space cut up into rooms by people who wanted more rooms with little care for physical space. For instance, the “bath tub” (as others have pointed out) was a former baptismal pool. It would have been narrow like that, but would have opened into a larger chapel area kind of like a balcony, probably with a dressing room near it. The chapel, at least, must have been cut up into hallways and rooms since you can’t even tell it was there anymore. It might even explain the weird levels, if a tall chapel was cut up into two “floors” that weren’t even with the rest of the structure.

I was wondering if you’d toured this house before. Right up your alley. To be honest, if this were near me, and I could have afforded it, I would have bought it for sure. It needs a lot of work to be certain, but most of what you see is the current owner’s junk, which would be going with them (I believe they were planning on moving their online resale business into a proper warehouse as it had outgrown this space). With the junk gone, it really wouldn’t take too much to make the house-like part even more house-like. Merge the two restrooms on the ground floor into a single large bathroom (with a tub rather than a baptismal font). Replace the accordion divider upstairs with a stud wall, and add a master bathroom to the bedroom there. Keep the kitchen/living/dining area open, just with new cabinets, appliances, etc. Then it would just be an oddly configured 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with a huge rec room, attached office, and a tunnel to what could be a very nice workshop once the shelves of junk are removed. I would keep all my tools, racks of scrap wood, etc. in there. I like to fix up old homes and this would be not only a great one to fix up, but a base from which to fix up other ones.
