Tom you have a great channel with a great wealth of knowledge here. I just want to point out that with the work Swing Catalyst, Dr. Scott Lynn, Mike Adams, and Terry Rowles are doing; the front-post you are highlighting is only a third of the story. It works for you most likely because your natural strong body pivot is one of being a front-post golfer and you were fighting it with movements for a rear-post golfer Again, you have great stuff out here; but it does not work for everybody. There are three major post types out there: Front-Post, Rear-Post, and Center-Post. Just something to think about. Also, Bryson is a front-post golfer just like you are.

I tried this technique on todays round. I focused on the ground about 2” in front of the ball. I immediately hit it pure and took a divot! Then I repeated it over and over! Fantastic tip! I’ve never been that consistent before. I also used this with fareway woods and hybrid but moved the focus point back to about an inch. What a difference! Thanks for todays tip!

Very few changes or tips provide instant improvement to the golf game, but tucking the right arm (elbow) is one. I saw Tommy's earlier video on this topic and was shocked at how much better and more consistently I'm striking the ball.

I went out Tuesday and started working on your technique, and I hit the center of the club face more times than I have in a long time! I am going to keep working on this technique. I will be 69 years old in about 8 weeks, and this is the easiest way to hit the ball in the center of the club face that I have tried. I know what you mean by wanting to keep on hitting golf balls, the only problem is I could go broke buying golf balls at the range!

Actually this video has helped me a lot with with my short irons because for some reason the longer the iron the better are my shots. What I’m saying is that it’s much easier for me to hit the center of the green with a 5 iron at 170 yards than it it is at 110 yards with a pitching wedge. Because I pull 80% of these short shots and the ball goes 30 to 40 degrees left. Subsequently on a short par four I’ll never use my driver because I want to be sure that the ball will not land below a distance of 150 yards. Which surprise a lot my golf pals because the driver is my favorite weapon in the bag, very accurate, straight and with an average distance of 233 yards (according to my garmin watch). Anyway thank you very much for this video, I now have a drill to work my short irons.
@SagutoGolf

I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! By the way, with regard to your short iron woes, also consider checking your ball position as it may be too far forward. In general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. Also, since you are liking my channel's content, I think you will also enjoy my FREE mini course - “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” - where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. Tom, and Saguto golfers, a bit of feedback. This drill is PFM--Pure Fantastic Magic. I'm 60+ and a beginner. I'm trying to put together all the arm, shoulder, leg, hip and hairline moves to get a ball to go straight. In ONE session--the first ball and all thereafter went swoosh-pop! I did nothing more than focus ahead of the ball and throw my trail arm at that target. PFM. Thank you, Tom!

HI tom. Spent the last 6 weeks practicing all your stack / tilt techniques in the garden with foam golf balls. Finally took it to the course on sunday and finished with a 94. I'm off 28 so thats 4 under par for me. Ball striking was great for someone of my level. No fat / thin shots whatsoever. I was even hitting my 5 iron about 145 ( which is great for me.) and super straight. Short irons / wedges were very impressive... and i found that tucking the right arm right in really worked. Strugled a bit with driver to be honest though, but did it 1 210 yards......am i right in thinking that the swing is the same and right arm should be also tucked in.

Great video Tom. I still think that your video about 1 year ago where you just move your lead shoulder down on the backswing and your trail shoulder down and under on the downswing was so helpful because you can just take it to the golf course. It allows your hips to move naturally. Together with weight on the lead side these two swing changes really transformed my game - after a bit of practice. Thanks so much!

Excellent video Tom on placing your focus point in front of the ball! I have started doing this, but not quite as far as you recommend. My focus is just in front of the ball. It does have an affect on "Krispy" ball contact. I'm going to use your "target" and "ball toss" analogy to accentuate the strike. Always learning from you Tom! Keep up the good work!

I’m glad to see you using the straight stick. My son and I have gained much benefit from the training tool. I actually hesitated to buy it because I haven’t seen you use one before. It made sense to me so I bought it anyway. I will admit, the purchasing process of the straight stick feels like an infomercial with lots of up-sell bologna. Have no fear, you can get through it and the club was delivered with the quickness.

I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you! The face is open a degree or two to the target line at address. Consider that the zero-point of the swing is even with the lead shoulder. The face would be square to the target there, but since the ball position is behind that spot, without any contrived manipulations this causes the face to be ever so slightly open to the target line. This relationship - face open to the target and closed to the in-to-out downswing path - is how we achieve the stock push-draw ball flight of this swing system. I hope that helps! I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Ben, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Golf is indeed a very difficult sport. Driver boom, irons nice and flush. Your connection video helped me big time. I'm glad to know learn of your progress, Richard - nice job!! Typically, once this swing is running properly on autopilot golfers experience significant increases in length. If you are relatively early in the process, then you are likely still ingraining your "feels" and thinking mechanical thoughts. When you develop sufficient confidence in the motion that you are comfortable "giving up control", you'll be able to just trust it and let it fly. At that point you'll have made that giant leap from playing "golf swing" to playing target-focused golf, and by then you should be seeing your yardages increase through the bag. By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. _It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion._ Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. I hope you'll give the school some thought. Keep up the great work!! Tom

It's is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo And while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. TS

The single best golf tip you've done! The sensation of throwing the handle of the club ahead of the ball and to the right was magic. From the very first swing, this gave me the ability to finally feel my arms extend down the target line with solid contact. No more over the top swing yanking the ball left or slicing right. Working for every club in the bag. Looking forward to repeating this over and over on the course.

After a couple of weeks trying to use stack & tilt, I am still struggling. Will persevere for the rest of the season, (can play in Norway maybe upto sometime in October). When I do achieve solid contact everything is low and usually drawing quite significantly. Played today and the highlights of my round were two shots on hole 15. Suddenly a miraculous 5 iron out of the fairway bunker followed by another pretty good 5 iron. That was the end of that! Still not understanding Tom’s instruction regarding the take-away. It is okay back to shaft parallel but after this the right elbow and wrists manage to feel like a fail-programmed robot getting into all sorts of wrong positions.

It is of critical importance to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. @SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Hi Emmett, I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Here's something to ponder, though. The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. The system I teach certainly allows for some transfer of pressure into the trail side during the takeaway. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club backwards during that initial stage of the swing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing. By the way, with regard to watching different videos from multiple sources, please be careful in navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. That is not a dig against any other teachers out there. It's simply best to commit to a system - whether it be what I teach or another method - put your blinders on, and stick to it. And if this system appeals to you, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some key aspects of it in a more structured manner before fully committing to it: go.saguto.golf/ Thanks for your message and keep up the great work! Tom, you are great, I love the way you instruct and your simple swing!! I watch all of your videos. The one thing I struggle with and I'm sure I can speak for a lot of golfers is the following: Do you consciously set your wrists during the backswing or do you allow the momentum of the club to do it? I remember in an older video you saying "wristy business is risky business". I have tried both ways and while it feels more natural to let the momentum of the club set my wrists I am more consistent when I set my wrists early and just turn. Maybe you can do a video talking about these two different methods of setting the wrists and which one you prefer. And thank you for the GREAT content!!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Nice memory on that "wristy/risky business" episode!! You are absolutely spot on with your comment. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Here are a few lessons on this topic: - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3evnmlte9NrZ68 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJerammqitNpotU - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ7Cg6eJfcd7bsU Thanks again for your message and keep up the great work! Hi Tom, can you clarify what the wrists are doing at impact and after impact. I saw something different when you threw the ball with your right hand in comparison to where you just used your club with your right hand. Thanks.

Here's one from the archives on the pro wrist release: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKiag62pqdZnnbs But here's the thing: If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. Here are a few lessons on this topic: - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3evnmlte9NrZ68 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJerammqitNpotU - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ7Cg6eJfcd7bsU By the way, have you checked out my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” lately? Tom you legend, what are some other tips for the grip? What are some keys to your grip?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
My main concerns with regard to grip are that the handle remains secure in the fingers throughout the entirety of the motion and that the proper hinging and unhinging of the wrists is fully supported without any contrived effort. Beyond that, each golfer is free to add their own individual flair and determine what works best for them (while, of course, keeping in mind the potential issues discussed here if the grip leaks too much toward the strong side: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZKwlX1rjbGrp7s). Hi Meegan, Here is a lesson from my channel's archives that touches on this topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKiag62pqdZnnbs Although we may have to focus on such actions when learning and ingraining particular swing elements, I much prefer that the swing ultimately be devoid of any timed or contrived handsy manipulations. In other words, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've built in the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. @SagutoGolf

I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you, Paul!! With regard to the erroneous notion that we need to manufacture some type of a rolling or flipping "release", given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of this action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that most pros are trying to actively manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact, but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. Here are a few of my channel episodes that may clarify: - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJaVnIRqacatgJY - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iabRdIVrqq-Sl9E - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKiag62pqdZnnbs I hope that helps! Tom have a question for you. I have been working for a while on the Stack and Tilt swing and am also a member of your site. I have worked hard to work the draw just to realize I would rather hit a little cut most of the time when on course I see straight shots/slight fades. What I have been doing is set up a little more square play the ball a touch more forward and not as much shaft lean in my set up. It seems to work well. Any other suggestions to work this I just want to eliminate hitting to the left. Also I've striped it and I am a Saguto golfer.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Actually, what you are doing - forward ball position and hands slightly back - are stock setup features for hitting a pull-fade in the S&T system. Keep experimenting with variations of those to see how they translate to your ball flight. And if you really want to be bold, you can even play around with a stronger grip - along with the forward ball position and hands back - to further accentuate curvature. Now you're really getting into the fun stuff!! By the way, questions like this are best suited for the Members Community in the online school. There's some fantastic dialog and engagement taking place there, and I really think you'll enjoy it. Keep up the fantastic work! Tom

I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! Yes - this also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Hey Tom, I shot a career low 86 using your method but the last week and a half I’ve had a really bad case of shanking and thinning. I watch over videos and it looks like I’m almost leaning with to much weight on the front foot, could that be the main cause?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
I'm very glad to learn of your improvement, Brady, and congrats on your new personal best! Your shanks can be the result of a variety of actions: 1) You may be too steep on the downswing and thereby exposing the hosel to the ball; 2) Conversely, your downswing path may be too in to out; 3) You may be rolling the face open during the backswing; 4) Your wrists may not be hinging properly; 5) You are setting up with the ball positioned at the heel of the club; 6) More... What I'm getting at is that there are a number of potential causes, and without actually seeing your swing it's impossible for me to identify the culprit behind those hosel rockets. There are entire sections of my online school dedicated to resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. If you had to pick one training tool (straight stick, lag shot etc) what would you point me towards? I have plenty of distance (though my 5 iron and 6 iron both go almost the same distance for some reason) and most of my misses come from me rushing the transition into downswing.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Hi Aaron, If you are struggling with downswing path issues such as a steep/over-the-top move - which would be symptomatic of a rushed transition - and/or early extension, then I might lean towards the Lag Shot. If you are more concerned about impact and ball flight, then perhaps the Straight Stick might be more appropriate. Having said that, there is definite overlap between the two products in terms of what they are capable of resolving, and they are both excellent training aids that work well within the swing system I teach. @SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Hi John, With regard to hitting out of the rough: 1) Place some additional weight forward in setup. 2) Play the ball a bit further back in the stance. 3) Firm up your grip a bit (without adding tension). 4) Emphasize the tilt component to go along with that extra forward weight as you're going to need more of a descending blow to extract to ball. 4) The thicker the cabbage, the more loft you're going to need. 5) In heavy rough expect the grass to grab your clubface and close it, affecting both starting direction and curvature. Make necessary alignment adjustments to compensate for this. 6) Take only what the lie gives you. Sometimes that means just chipping it back into play. Don't go from trouble to trouble.
