I totally agree with the LVPO vs RD concept, I have several ARs, my coyote rifle, she'll stay scoped, all others, I have as tools for self or home defense, and find that anything in that conceptualization is going to be with a football field or most likely much less if you're using it for defense, shots outside of that would be argued as aggression not defensive, and I cannot find one single application where an lvpo could make any case for a home defense weapon. Personally I am running UTG irons on my set ups, or Daniel Defense, I do not want any flip down anything, have my dots all rockin lower 1/3, and yes most my dots have magnifiers, but thats more PID than range, as I run a 36 yard zero so 36/300 point of aim is point of impact and the deviation is so insignificant that anything in that range so long as I'm aiming center mass, hits in the pie plate! I'm with Dave, love the flat triggers from CMC and Rise Armament, now the blackout defense zero trigger. Don't have NV yet, so no lasers, I too run the light out on the right, hate it catching on my pant leg, olighg has put out a new light that is part of an angled foregrip, testing it now, but liking how it slims things down, longevity and abuse is my key concerns here. Personally I end up throwing DD furniture on most every one of my rifles, but have been weening away from their stocks to B5. I don't run any barrels less than 16" for a multitude of reasons. Wow! That's some good stuff. Im really simple. I have my rifles with simple red dots and iron sights. No lasers or magnifiers. I just figure if i cant shoot with just that adding more won't make me better. But being taught more is always a good thing. Definitely want some of this gear

Gentlemen, appreciate the video. One of the biggest reasons is Dave showing us that he uses the BAD lever. I am a huge fan of the BAD lever or the Phase 5 version in a mag release and have been using them for quite a while, but I get a lot of crap about them. I have heard just about everything bad that can be said about them, so it is really nice to hear from someone with actual credentials saying he likes them. Thank you for this video.

its videos like this that remind me of the disconnect between civilians and veterans in the firearms/training space. The vets always seem to be super professional and respectful, while the civis talk smack, get meme-ish and try to tell you "my way is right, your way is wrong" where as both of you have totally different set ups and your concept behind your set up and the "why" to it and bringing up past experience as actually former "gunfighters" to enhance that "why".

I like a simple red dot on my 300blk and a lpvo with offset red dot on my 556. I could see going red dot with magnifier on the 556 just due to the weight but I like the lpvo for more precise stuff.

I used the ATPIAL when I was on deployment, and I've ran them here but I ditched it and went to a Surefire with pressure pad for lightweight and how unlikely I'd be using night vision in a SHTF situation. Still got the gear if I really needed it.

When cleaning to keep your ir/vis lenses clean add a slight coat/film with the same gun lube of ur choice

You hit the nail on the head; ;point shooting is the fourth and final aiming technique. Also good when heads up, a lot of things happening. First way you learned how to shoot, so actually very intuitive. Aiming laser, red dot/lpvo, iron sights, point technique. All good.

try rubbing a little bit of Vaseline on your lens on your light puts a barrier between the plastic and the carbon the carbon wipes right off👍

the "life hack" about cleaning your light - I use a thin layer of Vaseline on the lens wipe if off and apply more. works for me

One thing about setting your front iron back behind your laser and buttons is that on a 10"+ rail you still probably have the same sight radius as a normal M4. Kyle Defoor used to have an article about why he liked this sight radius, not sure if he took it down or not.

Great video and cool to see different setups. Still playing with my rifle setup for work and it’s constantly changing. Right now running a 10.3” HK416 with a DBAL all the way to the front at 12 o’clock, I have a Modlite on the left side, a BCM short forgrip, I have a pressure switch for my DBAL at the 45 on my left side, my light uses a push cap, and I have back up irons, and a T2 aimpoint optic. Works for me but always looking to improve it.

I have 2 complete Go Too Rigs and have 1 extra SPR / DMR Upper My Main Rig is 13.9" with Eotech EXPS3 , Vortex Micro 3× Magnifier , Cloud Defensive Owl , MI 11.5 Combat MLOK Rail , Slate Black MLOK Heat Panels , Geissele SD3G Trigger , Full Ambi Controls , WPS QD Sling , YHM Turbo K & Rattle Can Paint Job. This rig does not have BUIS yet because I'm running 1.93 Height and waiting Peak 1.7 Folding BUIS.. My back up rig is standard TDP M4A1 14.5 Block II-ish with ROMEO5 on REPTILLIA 1.93 Mount , Cloud Defensive Rein Micro , WPS QD Sling , Pinned A2X F.H. & Rattle Can Paint Job . Again waiting on Peak 1.7 Folding BUIS.. My SPR / DMR Upper is 16" 6mm ARC with 1-10× Mil FFP ATMR3 , ADM RECON-M QD Mount , Cloud Rein Micro , MI 15" Combat MLOK Rail , Magpul Bipod , YHM Resonator K with KURZ Kit & Rattle Can Paint Job.. I bounce back forth with M4A1 Optics Setup . Right now Romeo5 is on but next week I'll have on my TA01NSN , and the following week I'll change my mind again and have P4Xi or TR24 1-4× . My main setup does not change and probably will never change . My spare Upper that's in DMR Role changes a lot . Next week I'll ditch the 6ARC and go with MK12 Mod H or Accurized 13.9" Mini Recce .

I have both (Aimpoint & LCO). I like the window in the LCO better. The biggest problem is Leupold has discontinued the LCO😢.

The POF lower has a bolt catch inside the trigger guard, which to me is worse than the bad lever. At least the bad lever sticks out on the right side for your trigger finger. Love the POF uppers, but not a fan of their lowers. That's nit picking though.

I dont like the light switch on my rifle, i removed it. Button push for me only. I found that the switch goes off too easily and I get too many stares from my neighbors when Im doing my midnight barrel roll drills in my backyard.

@dutchchrismoyeractual I am curious about how you're running your pressure switches with your left hand like that, in a normal tight grip wouldnt you be risking activating the switches when you tightly grip the handguard? Also it looks like you aren't running a handstop to be able to apply rearward pressure, so I imagine most of your left hand would be putting just a tight grip which brings back the whole pressure switch issue. Just looking for some insight. Btw love the videos guys.

Serious question, Dave or Dutch, or Dave and Dutch; why not put the laser on the bottom of the hand guard where it's out of the way of your irons and can double as a hand stop? What Dutch said; dry fire, dry fire, dry fire ... . However "you" decide your set up should be you have to get it smooth and past thinking.

Putting it on the bottom causes secondary issues with barricades and such. The bottom of the rail takes an absolute beating. Add to it, if your pressure switch goes down (happens often) you can’t effectively operate your laser and shoot (Dave).

From left field question here, iv been seeing it a lot and am wondering if theirs any method to the madness here. So why do you run your battle belt above a second belt? Is it just preferred or is there something else?

For me... and this is just why I do it... An inner belt keeps my pants up and the battle belt is for gear. I can take that off if needed and still keep my pants on! Your milage may vary.

i know you didn’t ask me, but i run a regular belt to keep my pants up as i have no ass. i prefer a battle belt that goes over my regular belt vs the battle belts that attach to a velcro band being used as a regular belt. It’s easier to get on and off and twist around a little if i need too. Yes sometimes it rises above or drops below my regular belt depending on my gut size for the day :)

most of the guys that poo poo iron sights don't understand basic marksmanship fundamentals. go back to beginning rifles training. You learn iron sight set up for a reason. Never leave your weapon without them,

If you only shoot on a range and the only risk of your optics going down and not having iron sights is a ruined track day, those irons don't matter. If your optics go down while angry men are shooting at you and you don't have back up irons, this becomes a different matter.

@joshjacobus4641, sorry to be a dick, but ditch the musket and get into modern times. That’s a 50’s gun and really dates back to the 30’s. Yes, I know the AR is old and dates back to the 50’s-60’s, but because it’s modular, it’s been updated to meet current needs. Can’t really do that with an M1A, except maybe a Sage stock, but they are heavy, expensive, and I’m not even sure they are still made.
