GO train doors will close one minute before departure

Mad dash commuters will have to pick up the pace. Shauna Hunt with the minor tweak to GO train departures that Metrolinx says will keep the system running on time.

When I was in Belgium, the alarm sounded 8 seconds before departure, the doors closed 5 seconds before, and the train left right on time. But I guess they know a thing or two about running a railway.

The doors close one minute before the train leaves. What does this mean? Are they currently closing one minute AFTER the train leaves? There’s no context to this story. What are we comparing this to?

Basically my understanding is that for example train #1 is scheduled to leave at Union Station for 6:50pm. Doors would close at or by 6:49pm and the train sits "idle" or gets ready to depart in that minute.

My understanding is there is no longer any leniency for people trying to get on at the last second, enabling the train to truly leave when it's scheduled to , not a few minutes late after letting all the last second people on.
