Yeah, there should be offside technology, I never thought of that. One goal that happened in the FIFA WC 14- the player was offside and the ref didn't see that. And that caused them to win the match, which wasn't fair. FIFA needs offside technology, refs make bad calls or they don't make any calls at all.

+ricomajestic Excactly....it won't even take that long. It'll take less than 25 seconds. What are you talking about...it'll take too long? As long as they get it right-that's what matters!
@ricomajestic
@ricomajestic 9 жыл бұрын
bjehulk...they can just do what is done in the NFL where a coach gets a limited number calls to be reviewed during a game. In soccer there could be a maximum of 2 review calls per team during an entire game. This would prevent repetitive stopping of the game. There is already technology that would review offside plays in real time and would not require the game to be stopped! Imagine how this could clean up the game. If a player is legitimately fouled or if he dives in the penalty area, the play could be reviewed by the 4th official and the correct call could be made. This might eliminate diving by players for fear of getting caught and receiving a red card!
@shooter4a1

Jerombolo The argument amongst the critics is if we introduce video replays like other sports it would slow down the game too much, so rather than stopping the game so the ref can watch a replay they use the current system so that the cameras and the tech do all the work and it just alerts the referee if it's a goal. FIFA stated the system must be able to do this in under 1 second to be considered. The 2 systems that passed are the ones that are now used.

The NHL needs to use this technology for determining if the puck crossed the line or not. Far too often it's deemed inconclusive because the puck can't be seen through the goalies glove or underneath him.
@Etherion195

Whilst i agree that works for many sports, that idea is used very effectively; unfortunately replays take time to analyse and make a decision upon. For stop-start sports like basketball, american football and rugby, that's fine! However for continuous sports with only very short breaks (by comparison), it is important that momentum etc is maintained by a very quick system, such as the ones shown.

Funny how Football is the most popular sports around the world, and yet sports like Tennis, Ice Hockey, American Football etc. have those technologies and much much more, for years and years. In Ice Hockey, if the referee on the ice makes a mistake, the 2nd team of referees will watch the slow motion reply and correct him if necessary. How come FIFA is so slow in adapting to new technologies? With all the technology we have, we could assist the referee with everything. No more wrong cards, unseen hand ball, unseen fouls, fake fouls etc. It would actually be fair play for once. But nope, let's include human errors, cause it's more fun.

Hobbit Stomper Football is the best and most loved sports in the world. The amalgamation of talent and technology would reduce unfairness in games. FIFA knows more than you so they know how and when to bring new technology in action.
@Hobbitstomper
@Hobbitstomper 7 жыл бұрын
Aidid Rashed First off, there is not such thing as "best" in life. Anyone who uses the word "best" to compare anything in life, is clearly immature. Second, the reason FIFA doens't update their technology, is because FIFA is run by a bunch of 70-80 year old conservative men who are afraid of change. They grew up without technology, and they think that technology will ruin the sport. This way of conservative thinking is wrong. Our world is constantly changing, so we need to adapt to it as well. All the other sports that introduced technology just got more popular and a lot fairer.

microchip chip in the ball and on the players top and shorts.. No more issues with offside or ball out of play. Put some super bright lights on the inside of the goal post so when the ball crosses the goal line.. It lights up and flashes!!! People will LOVE this idea

in my opinion before deciding if there was goal or not refs should look at the slowmo replay then decide just like in American football, with this thing you just have more ways to rig the game
@ybk360
@ybk360 10 жыл бұрын
What people are afraid of is that replays would slow down the game. But I think they should do it during important games or, more specifically, starting at the 80th minute of an important match while the teams are searching for the winning goal.

Angel Bonilla There was no need for sarcasm. He's absolutely right. Most of American games are usually being reviewed by the referrers in slow motion in order to make a right call. What's point to waste your time to wait this technology to develop efficiently in the meanwhile most of matches get slaughtered by referees rather than just looking the cameras ?

i was wondering the same thing. there is probably some chip, or something inside the ball that triggers the response. so when an arm or leg or an entire player crosses it, it will not mark it as a goal.

@Etherion195

Pav4n Because it's fucking expensive, goals can't really be moved again, it will be even more expensive, if something breaks, and it's not necessarily a useful effort. Plus, what happens, if referees start to count on this and then it doesn't work maybe one time? Nothing is flawless, but i'd rather have a very small human flaw than a very expensive technical flaw, which makes it lose all it's purpose.
@pav4n538
@pav4n538 8 жыл бұрын
It's not expensive relative for the money that is in football, at around £250K per install and it will last years and years, Premier League officials earn between £70,000/yr and £85,000/yr a year, the system pays for itself in the long run. Goals don't really get moved often, on the rare occasions where the groundsmen change the pitch they are more likely to repaint along the sides of the pitch. You seem to expect the system to have errors, Hawk-eye has been used in tennis for 10 years, and in other sports like cricket for nearly as long, this isnt exactly new technology. Even if Hawk-Eye was to slip up once, it would still be more accurate than a referee, look at all the close calls it has made already in the Premier League without incident. The reason this technology is needed isn't because the job cannot be done by a human, but because the decision needs to be instant, something a human cannot do. The reason it needs to be instant is so the ref can stop the game and declare the goal has been scored. You can't pause the game, or go back at a later time and declare that was a goal and play must be stopped, that's not football.
@Etherion195
@Etherion195 8 жыл бұрын
Pav4n uhm, your calculation is actuallypretty much non-existent. You don't pay more officials only because they need to watch the goals. The pitch is changed almost every year in some stadiums and therefore the goals have to be moved and everything maybe has to be installed again. But you areabsolutely right that the decision has to be instand, sometimes refs don't see that the situation has to be reviewed, i didn't think of that. Well but there still are problems. In football, the pitch is many, many times larger than a tennis court and the lines are sometimes not as visible as in other sports. And how does the camera decide, if it was the ball or just a head, which was going over the line?

Today in the Premier League, Chelsea vs. Hull posed a challenge to Hawk-Eye. Sure TV replays also could've conclusively shown that the ball hadn't gone in, but the system was able to accurately and *instantly* determine that a goal had not occurred. The key thing is it did its job and still allowed the match to flow, like a football match should. The suggestion of just viewing a TV replay, although it works in other sports, would be inappropriate here.
