⚡️STAMINA is the #1 issue goalies are having on the ice right now, so here is a HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout that hockey goalies can do at home. The difference between this and riding the bike or going to the track is the goalie specific movement patterns which you should include in your off-ice hockey training.
Here's the Dynamic Warm Up I promised you - • BONUS SOA Dynamic Warm...

Hi Maria, I know that I'm a little late to the party (watching this and all your videos) but I'm just getting started playing goalie (I'm 62 yr old) and I have only played goalie once at puck play about 20 years ago... I really appreciate all your helpful information and advice and encouragement you have in all your videos so please keep up all your hard work. Thanks and have a great day 😀, Ronald

Maria, you're the biggest beauty on KZbin. Without gym or ice access, your videos are essential for keeping ground work exercises fun and fresh. Had three skates in four days last week after 15 weeks off ice and felt really good. Have you to thank in a big big way. A mix of jogs, mountain hikes, no booze, and your workouts, I'm a cut above the guys who are all panting and gassed. Looking forward to seeing your first skate back since! Cheers from Vancouver!

Hi Scott - thanks so much for that! So glad you have been feeling great out there. I had my first skate today and felt AWESOME too. Great mobility, good power, balance came back fast. Winded at times for sure, but it is going to be that way. Glad you made the most of your time away from the ice - - you ROCK!

This is a great little workout Maria! Would this be appropriate for my 11 year old who is already quite active? He's really enjoying your workout for goalies under 14 and he just loves doing these kinds of things. Thanks for everything you post, and once my son is old enough for your Shutout Academy I'm sure he'll love to join. I certainly won't pressure or rush anything with him because I'm a former goalie who now knows the effects of training and practicing everyday beginning at a young age :)

Hi Shane - glad you like it - - I didn't design it for youngsters - you probably saw the workout I did put together for them a few weeks ago - but maybe if you guys do it together for a couple sets - a few times per week - probably not going to hurt him.

Hey Maria, the problem for me is when the shot is released I shift my weight back which puts me on the heels of my feet. Wondering if you could direct me to a few exercises that could help me stay on the balls of my feet. Thanks.
@goalietraining
@goalietraining 4 жыл бұрын
That is more working on the habit - it isn't that you're not strong enough to do it, you just have a habit of moving away from the shot. I would find someone to shoot on you off-the ice, starting with easy shots where you can focus on 'leaning into' the shot.

How often do you recommend doing this workout? Does it compliment another (besides the dynamic warmup) for the “off days”?
@goalietraining
@goalietraining 4 жыл бұрын
You could do it 3 times per week - it could compliment your strength training days.

Maria, After a few years of just watching your videos I finally started doing the exercises about 5 weeks ago. (Getting diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes helped light a fire to get me to exercise more). I've skated 4 times now since early June, and I've had quite a few people comment that my legs are moving a lot faster. Check out the comment I got from a video I posted from my last scrimmage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn-wh2qAbNqMi8k. I can say that I feel like my stamina has improved and my recoveries are quicker. Thank you so much the information you share.

So glad to help Tony - and congratulations on taking action man. I am thrilled that you are feeling good out there and getting compliments - that's the best! I am listening to a book on audible right now called "how not to die" - - seriously that's what it's called - by a Dr. Greger - really interesting - you might like it because he talks about diabetes in there. I guess I'll be seeing more of you around here Tony!
