The place looks very cozy and clean. I was born and lived for ~24 years in Siberia (I'm Russian), in a very cold and contrast climate. We lived in a city, but in a small wooden house without a central heating, water and sewerage. So, I don't understand several things about the house in this video. First, if you live in a place like this, you don't really need a fridge. You can store most of your foods outside in a protected container. Or make a section in your house, like basement, cold enough for that. It's quite easy. Second, most people in my country who live in cold north parts have a small saunas. We call them Banya. It can be a small room or separated building with a furnace, that you fuel with wood and it heats the room up to very high temperatures. It's good to sit there for a half of hour and wash yourself after a long cold day. Plus you use it to heat a lot of water, or melt snow. These guys could do something similar - use their stove to heat water for the shower room. Especially, if they are going to have babies. And of course ideally would be nice to connect it all to a cesspit outside.

Artem Klimov I do not know where to start.... First ..my house is not as nice as their "yurt" round and a pointy roof ? I have seen real Yurts ...and this looks like the Taj Mahal of yurts. I use Yeti 1250s and solar ...oh crap This is just a liberal's idea about living off the grid... If i had spent the money they did i would have at least had a well and a septic tank installed .... which i have... and gas cooking ....my wife wishes she had gas. My Goal Zero powers an induction hot plate .... It really is amazing video ... where poverty is a "cool in thing" My hat is off to Artem ... he really knows what living off the grid means .. "symbolism over substance" comes to mind when i watch

You don't have to live in Siberia to know that you don't need a fridge in that type of weather. I went to Rochester NY for Thanksgiving, and we literally just covered the food in foil and moved it into the garage. No problem with a crowded refrigerator at all.

Winters might be cold but summers can get hot too. New York can go from Florida to Canada throughout the year. Putting it in the garage is a seasonal solution.

I take my hat off to you guys,what a fabulous home in every respect. There is certainly nothing crazy about this way of life,in fact I would say this how most of us should live.This is more of a natural way of life. It certainly makes you realize what you are using water and energy wise,something that most of us take for granted.This is the greener way to go and certainly a lot healthier not only physically but also mentally and spiritually . Congrats to both of you for breaking away from the main stream we are all conditioned to living. I have to get me a yurt one day for sure.
@The_Gallowglass9 жыл бұрын
You guys have more than enough room to have kids there. You have more space than you might realize, compared to some people. I grew up in a house that was 500 square feet. The only reason it was bigger, is that the loft attic was converted into bedrooms, so about 900 sq ft altogether. Four people, with pets. Your yurt is about as big or maybe a little bigger than the house I lived in for 20+ years. It looks really well done and I'm glad you guys are happy.

Fantastic I love this . When we all go off grid , who will make your kettle , your clothes , your yurt , your axes , your duvet's , your plates , your wood stoves , your guns , your taps , your solar , your plywood , your cups , your knives , the list is endless . The best of luck to you because the world is full up . With people .

Would love to know more about what you did with your yurt to make it more user-friendly in your climate...what yurt did you get? Does yours have solid window panels instead of the soft plastic ones? What size is your yurt? Noted solid walls--more insulation? What kind to avoid dew-point inside the walls? Would love to see a floor plan to get a clearer idea of the layout--I like what shows in the video. And how about those bears?? Have you considered doing water catchment--I know MT is fairly dry, but if they get even 8" of rain in a year, one can run generously off that much, if there's enough catchment area and large enough tankage, even for a family of 6 who don't conserve. Yes, we have a yurt, too, but so far, have not lived in it full-time yet...but may be headed that way. There are stories to share about upkeep and foibles! We've got much work to do yet, to make it ready.
