Ingredients
: 250gms prawns
: Salt as per taste (I used 1/2 salt to marinade prawns + 1/2 tsp salt for the gravy)
:1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
: 1 tbsp yoghurt
: 4-5 tbsp oil
: 3-4 tbsps finely chopped garlic
: 2 tbsps chopped spring onion bulbs
: 4 medium sized onions sliced vertically
: 3-4 finely chopped green chilies
: 2 tsp soya sauce
: 4 tbsps tomato ketchup
: 1 tsp kashmiri red chili powder
: 2-3 tbsps chopped capsicum
: 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander
: 1 tbsp chopped spring onions
Steps:
: First you need to marinade prawns by adding salt, ginger garlic paste and yoghurt. Give it a good mix and keep the prawns aside to marinade
: Then in a wok or a kadhai, add oil. Once the oil is hot, add garlic and saute at high flame until garlic is cooked and turns golden brown. Then add spring onion bulbs, stir for a minute and then chopped onions.
:Let the onions cook for around 7-8 minutes at high flame and remember to keep stirring or else onions will burn at the base of the wok. While cooking onions, add chopped green chilies too.
:Once onions turn dark brown in color, add prawns and let the prawns cook.
:Then add soya sauce, tomato ketchup and salt. Give it a good stir and finally add chopped capsicum and turn the stove in a minute. Capsicum needs to be crispy and not fully cooked.
At last add chopped coriander and spring onions and prawns balchao is all ready to be served.
Notes
Tip 1: This recipe is cooked on high flame
Tip 2: Be careful while adding salt as soya sauce and tomato sauce already contains salt.
Tip 3: Do not over cook capsicum. Capsicum needs to be crispy for better taste.
Tip4: Preferably use fresh prawns instead of frozen prawns for this recipe. Frozen prawns will let out water and the consistency of the gravy will not be as it should actually be.
