Hi, John! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for stopping by. We parked at the trailhead off the dirt road just outside of De Anza Springs Resort. It's in Jacumba, CA.

Cool hike but that railroad is active. They're working on restoring the line for freight service in 2018. Hopefully they'll add excursion trains through Carrizo Gorge as well!

Thank you Yazmin for your beautiful done video! My friends and I want to go next week end but we are debating wether to do your route or the trail by the Palmars, but are worried that there is no trail and we may get lost. Yours seems a better option but how about the "active" trains. Any update on that? Thanks!

I am glad you point out that this is not particularly a difficult hike, just a very long hike.I have about 5 hikers friends would like to go on this hike, we are looking for someone that had done this hike to come along. Anyone interested? Target date: 4/1/18.

Hi. I know this an old video but if you're still active, how long did it take to reach the trains? thanks!
@TolkienLewis

Hi! I’m not sure exactly how long it was to the trains but I believe it was 16 miles round trip to the bridge and back.

Hi, Jason! The easiest way to get to the trailhead where we started is to Google directions to the De Anza Springs Resort at maps.google.com/maps?um=1&ie=UTF-8&fb=1&gl=us&entry=s&sa=X&ftid=0x80d9bd08ed00d217:0xe37638a00c63de12&gmm=CgIgAQ%3D%3D The trailhead is just before the resort on the left side. It's a "clothing optional" resort, so you may not want to go inside or take pictures until you get on the trail. You will start walking west from the parking area on the side of the road until you reach the railroad, then follow the railroad all the way to the bridge. I've heard recently that they are starting to enforce the trespassing laws out there, so if you go, you do so at your own risk. Many people were hiking and biking the day we went and I wasn't aware until afterwards that this was not the recommended route. There is another, shorter route that is 5.5 miles, but I don't have the details on that one. I hope this helps.

Mike Khuu I've never gotten a flat tire on my numerous rides out there. I do, however, have a repair kit on my bike

If you're going through a tough time in life, wear a head lamp. You'll look ridiculous if you're at the grocery store but somehow it will make things easier.
