I hope they keep tinkering with this. Obviously not yet up to Leatherman standards, but I hope Leatherman is watching very closely, because the ability to create your own perfect multi-tool(s) is every hobbyist/DIYers dream, and when GOAT eventually perfects this format it will cause a panic among the multi tool establishment unless they make their own. In the meantime I will get the Surge, which is at least partially modular.

The key to this tool is the fact that you can swap things out, and it’s modular… there’s always room for improvement!

Ive had mine for a little under 2 weeks and share most of your thoughts on it. A few simple fixes would immediately bump it from a 7 to an 8, and those are: 1. washers between each tool to prevent clumping, 2. Slightly reshaped locking lever to prevent accidental opening. 3. Better file, 4. Better wirecutters Also, more scale and tool varieties would be cool.

I think it's a damn fine offering from a private startup. A simple angular relief under the cutting edge of the wire cutter inserts would solve the problem you described.

No matter what if you feel, there are some sort of imperfections with the tool it’s great to voice them as a lot of these things can be corrected. Wether GOAT tools is listening to the customers and willing to make these corrections remains to be seen. So far in my opinion they have been very accommodating. Don’t forget it’s their first run at this product.

Yes, it’s their first product run….. Still, the wire cutters need to work out of the gate. The issue should have been resolved during the prototyping stage.

I haven't received mine yet. But from this, I have mixed feelings. I am still excited about it. But it does seem more cumbersome than it should be. I like that that base handles and pliers themselves are good. I feel like it is the individual tools that mostly need maturity - which is great because they can be swapped out easily. the fact that the cutters dont work well seems to be a huge bummer. I dont use my multitool cutters often, but when I do, I need them to work. my thought is that we again can likely replace these with better cutters and get them working. For the price we shouldn't HAVE to replace things immediately on a new tool to get it working right. However I think a lot of people need to remember that on a startup company like Goat Tools, you are also partially funding the company itself, along with paying for the tool. You spend your money to say "I love this idea, and I want a market where this tool exists, so I am willing to spend a bit more". I worry about how this will fair once the Leatherman arc is released. I feel like that is going to be a big ticket item and the modularity of the Goat Tool will fall too much. If there were better more mature tools on this out of the gate (less "lets throw a wrench here and there" mentality, and more "lets make sure what it does do, it does great" mentality), I think that this would end up selling much more after the initial kickstarter/indiegogo round of funding fulfillment is completed. I would LOVE for Leatherman to follow this trend. At the very least, I would love for them to say "here are all the tools we made for each of our multitools, you can now buy them individually, and here are the tools you need to mod your multitool as you see fit." If I invested in the original Leatherman free p4 lets say, and then the arc comes out, I should be able to buy the individual tools that the arc has, so that I can put them on my free P4 and not have to completely buy a new multitool unless I want it. And I think this is what the Goat Tool brings to the table. So it is vital that their base pliers and handles are perfect out of the gate. The rest of the tools can be sorta junk at the start. If they have base handles and pliers that work well and feel rock solid, then they are miles ahead of the game.

Modular multitools may not be as sleek as non modular tools, but they have the advantages of 1. If a tool breaks you can easily replace it instead of the whole tool or having to ship the tool to the manufacturer. 2. The tool load can be changed to suit your needs (including replacing unused tools with spacers to make it lighter) 3. Easy clearing of dust, sand, etc by disassembling the tool. 4. Upgrading components with better materials or design improvements

Yes the ergonomics are a bit lacking compared to some of the competitors' models.... more tool options, more than just the one frame currently available and better high end steels (cpm 154 wire cutters) would be desirable but give it time. A newborn doesn't compete with Leatherman and Victorinox right out of the gate....i have a wishlist for a multitool for my needs and this Goat still hits the mark more then the Leatherman Surge or SAK Swisschamp with its modularity.... p.s. a non stainless knife on a multitool is OK! the Leatherman Arc released Magnacut but a plain edged or even serrated K390, Vanadis 8, etc. total tool boner 😅

Maxlvledc suggested the first thing you should do when you get this tool is to swap the hobby knife to where the main blade is so the the bit driver can unlock without pulling up the release lock and just push down like the other side, but for me the problem is the main blade rubs against the plier like the hobby knife, it pretty much binds, but to be fair Maxlvledc said you tinker with it alot, but you pointed out about the wire cutters very poor compared to cheap multi tools, they shouldn't release this tool yet, I would of felt better paying 40.00 dollars not a 100.00
