We are a veteran couple, just on the verge of retirement, and we bought a farm in preparation for it. We are trying to learn as much as possible, and videos like this are so greatly appreciated. This was one of the most well-presented, informative, no-nonsense while still entertaining videos I have seen. Well done, and thank you! I am excited to browse through your others!

Wow. You made my day. Just when the world looks mean and nasty, people driving like the road laws don’t apply to them. My beautiful goat Tabitha got attacked by two rogue dogs. Heart break, vet bills, practically sleeping in their pen to protect them with my shot gun….. Stress😢😢😢😢. I see the light at the end of the tunnel now. You pretty lady have just restored a bit of faith I was had for humanity. Thank you

I’ve seen your mineral and baking soda dispensers with admiration in a few videos. I stopped and picked up the supplies to build two today, worth it I think but grief how prices have increase in the recent past! Turned out to be $44.17 each. I did not use cement and sprang for the screw top clean out plug to easily remove the top, they were about $2 more than the standard cap for the 3” pipe setup. Thanks for all the inspiration!

Wow you have a video on everything lol, i have a new buckling born the 10th of April and he only has one testi, is this a problem for breeding?
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage4 жыл бұрын
Homesteading The Pioneer Way Lol That one I don’t have on my channel though! 😆 It’s hard to say. He is young still and it could still drop. Cows will sometimes drop down later as they mature. We had a young stud colt breed a mare and when we went to castrate him the vet has to dig for the second testicle. It hadn’t dropped at all and he was fertile. There are several things that could happen: If the buck is fertile, it may be genetic and you probably wouldn’t want to pass that trait on. He could be fertile and it was just a woopsey membrane weird deal holding it up and all be well in his offspring. He could be not fertile at all. And he could be banded and live a happy life as a wether. Only time will tell. You could get a vet that’s handy in reproduction issues and have them do an ultrasound to find where the testicle is and maybe could see the issue.

My land has pine trees and juniper bushes, would this be a problem for goats?
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage3 жыл бұрын
There does seem to be a lot of talk back and forth about this. But I've given our goats our Christmas trees after we are done with them and there have been no problems. They love to eat them and will eat every pine tree they can get their lips on. So probably the biggest issue is allowing their rumen to get used to this new food and not allowing them to gorge on it. And they really do need hay or a main source of food besides pine needles. Besides hay, all foods should be in moderation or they can cause problems. The same would be true for juniper.
@emwagner3 жыл бұрын
@@DelcifromALifeofHeritage I've read online that juniper is toxic to goats.
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage3 жыл бұрын
@@emwagner some goats and goat breeds are more tolerant. You can decide for yourself how to handle the juniper 😊 www.google.com/amp/s/agrilifetoday.tamu.edu/2016/03/05/super-juniper-eating-goat-project-melds-genetics-technology-to-manage-plant-pest/amp/ permies.com/t/15926/Goats-sagebrush-juniper-needles-berries Some people say theirs can but some articles say no.
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage3 жыл бұрын
I've been doing more research on this. I would clear the juniper or fence the goats out of the juniper. Some goats and goat breeds might be more tolerant but it's not worth it to find out. Sorry for the delay in my final and official answer.

@DelcifromALifeofHeritage4 жыл бұрын
A goat is only in milk after they have kids, so if they are never bred, then they won’t need to be milked 😊 And even after they have kids, they can be dried up.

2 of my stupid goats, jump the electric fence, about to get rid of them, going to set up a big dog kennel for those 2. Our vet said no grains esp for males, no corn either.
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, goats usually need a pretty secure fence if you don’t want them to get out. And I’d agree, males usually don’t need grain ☺️

Genevieve Greene It isn’t a fence in our plan personally either. Good point to bring up. But many goat owners have used it successfully and swear by it. It’s those anomalies that happen that are just plain awful! 😕

A lot of new or soon to be new goat owners want to know what they need in their goat pen and how to set it up. There’s no shame in that and I encourage them to think through their set up. It could save frustration, mistakes and regrets later. 😊

Delci • A Life of Heritage I plan to get goats goats eventually on my acreage. Ill be constructing my fortress around them and like all my animal adventures, Ill keep re-inventing it until it works.
