the fact that Jackson is able to be extremely funny in a conversation in 3 different languages just shows how good he is at understanding cultures and using the language in the right way, which does not mean being just grammatically correct. Thanks a lot, it was so interesting as usual, now I cant' wait to see BamBam!!

@@kristin123a yes, but I didn’t see enough of it to determine if he talks it as well as the others. @@asiab.5926 His mandarin has improved a lot. I saw some clips of him recently speaking in Mandarin in Street Dance of China 3, and although he has moments where he has to process what he wants to say, overall his mandarin is clear and correct. Also, about him saying he can talk in 5 languages (Korean, English, Mandarin, Shanghainese, Cantonese) - technically Shanghainese and Cantonese are dialects. But let's not nitpick. He's crazy talented to be able to speak so many as it is! I would say his English is the strongest.

@@kestiameshad The thing about Chinese "dialects" is that they really are different enough to be different languages. Some of them are similar enough to Mandarin that you can call them dialects but a lot of them (including Cantonese and Shanghainese) are so different that they can't be classified as dialects, bc they're mutually unintelligible. Wikipedia classifies them as "Sino languages;" the only reason that people don't see them that way is bc there are like hundreds.

It doesn't take any effort to be themselves. You should admire other people like you who were able to overcome their introversion. It's an everyday battle for introverts to step into the light. Plus connecting easily with many people can be very superficial. Better have one true friend than hundreds of connections.

Jackson once said that he had to learn korean as quickly as possible, when he moved to south korea. he started practising it with random people and once he became famous, his confidence to make mistakes didnt disappear. he even constantly says in his chinese tv shows that his chinese is bad and no one expects from him to be perfect. they laugh when he makes mistakes and i think its wonderful. only people so far, who always bash people for their accents or "not knowing proper words" have been native english speakers (out of all the languages i have learned and nationalities i have met: french, german, spanish, finnish, russian, korean, japanese, mandarin - they are always shocked if you even know one word).

Jackson is a polyglot, who speaks five languages fluently (that he'll admit to), but I've seen clips of him speaking even more languages proficiently. In an interview one time, he said that the way he learns languages is to first learn about the culture; second, learn what that culture finds funny; third, watch variety shows and -- evidently -- pick up the language that way. So he doesn't just learn a language and then happen to be funny, but he bases his entire method of communication on humor specific to that culture. Which is why he's like a chameleon who is universally beloved wherever he goes. I've seen him have everyone in stitches in English, Mandarin, and Korean, and if you really pay attention, you can tell that he is tweaking his style and his jokes to match wherever he is. Like I said: he's a genius.

Yess I'm so glad you noticed the same thing about Jackson's confidence and perseverance whenever he gets something wrong. He's been my inspiration for Korean learning for so long because of that and I always feel like it's okay to mess up because of him. By the way, if you wanna laugh you should watch the "Jackson and Youngjae Got2days" (both 2015 and 2016 versions) because he made a Korean mistake in each one and it's hilarious because of Youngjae laughing and teasing him but it's cute because he never lets these mistakes pull him down. And his Korean has become so much better now since then! :D

The cool thing about Jackson that may play a part in his confidence is he feels that he has to “play his part” as the loud, energetic one of the group even if its at the expense of being perceived as “airheaded”. Hes really an admirable character :((( Btw Loving this Got7 propaganda! Will we be seeing Bambams soon? Also ive said this in a previous comment but I hope one of these days you can analyze Handong from Dreamcatcher. Her pronunciation sounds less noticeable compared to other mandarin/cantonese speaking female idols so id love to hear of that as well. Love your videos!

JYPE pushed the "funny guy" character for Jackson because he was always the most confident and outgoing person with the ability to carry the group on variety shows, interviews, etc but if you watch his solo interviews and shows, you can clearly tell how insightful and wise he is. Even his team member Jinyoung always says Jackson might look like he's always joking but he has deep conversations with him and he is a deep thinker. I sometimes feel bad for Jackson that he had to do that for the group because if he is quiet for 2 minutes, ahgases think that he is sad, angry or unsatisfied with something. It must get tiring for him

jackson is one of the reasons I always loved got7!! his confidence in speaking a language really makes up for the mistakes he makes. I think one of the worst things you can do as someone speaking a foreign language is being really hesitant about talking in that language. it painfully shows your lack of fluency and makes you appear even less fluent than you might be. at least that's the impression I get with others but also myself when speaking. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but talking was always the hardest part for me when I learned foreign languages. I was always better at grammar and reading comprehension, but be it english, french or spanish, if I was made to converse or describe images, all my knowledge went out the window. I stuttered, struggled to think of words and struggled to form sentences. so to me it's really fascinating to see people like jackson who just say whatever is on their mind without any regards to how correct they are. as long as he's putting himself out there, he's bound to improve and sound more natural. I want to be more like him in that regard

it would be so nice if you could analyze the best non native korean speakers in NCT (like yuta, renjun and kun) they're so good that people often forget that korean isn't their first language

This was really interesting to watch. And you're so right about Jackson's confidence, it's one of the main things that make me like him so much. May I suggest reacting to Jae of Day6, too? (he is american)

This is a great video, loved it so much! I just think that maybe it would be better to take into account that those clips are pretty outdated and Jackson has definitely improved a lot since then. That's all, have a nice day :))

@@PassionPno I'm not talking just about languages, he excels at MANY things, which obviously doesn't apply to whole countries, "girl". And it's not just Chinese languages/dialects that he's good at, he is just a very quick learner

i’ve been binge watching this series, it makes me more confident about my own korean thinking that even some idols aren’t perfect either also i love your explanations, sometimes you give grammar points and i learn from them too also i love how it’s light hearted and you joke around too. Very fun and interesting to watch i’d love to see more of these thank you billy ^.^

As a Korean American, I've noticed that he pretty much translates what he wants to say in English directly into Korean. I've seen him do it quite a bit. This is also quite common for older people who don't study a foreign written language. I've noticed this in America with non-native English speakers who come to America and pick up English later in life. All of this is quite fascinating. Some people can pass as a native speaker as they have a great ear for accents. Billy--while you obviously have great knowledge of Korean (having studied it for 15 years), it's great that you have this youtube channel. Will definitely tune in and watch more to learn from you. However, if I close my eyes, I can totally tell that you aren't Korean as your pronunciation is slightly off (even on easy words/phrases). I don't have as much formal study of the Korean language; however, I did live there as a high school student and young adult, so when I speak on the phone using basic sentences, people can't tell. As I get into more complicated conversations, my lack of vocabulary and some grammar, gives me away.

He does all those things when learning Mandarin as well, and that’s why he can improve himself in lots of things pretty quickly and at the meantime enjoy the process

Jackson is like the 6 year old boy that you love...he shows no bad intentions,he behaves as though he likes everybody, including himself, he genuinely wants to communicate...not impress others, and that trait is very endearing to all. When speaking another language, we can try to communicate sincerely and that will make others want to understand us. You used a good example, today, for language student beginners to observe how much others will help,if you try your best to communicate. Jackson does not feel awkward and that puts everyone around him at ease.

I once sarcastically said that my favorite food was 번데기 (boiled silkworms) while I was living in Korea and every time I met up with that lady, she'd bring me some and I would choke it down with much regret as I didn't have the heart to tell her I was joking at the time.
