PS5 No Power Diagnosis and Repair

PS5 diagnosis and repair. Today we will diagnose and attempt to repair a Sony PS5 with no power. In this video, we will go through the process of identifying and fixing a power-related issue with a PlayStation 5.
This console came in with no signs of life. No beep from the power button, no blue or white light, nothing. What might cause a problem like this? In our case at a minimum we have determined that there is no voltage at the power button switch so of course we can not turn it on. Since this is not a disc drive in this model, we can't insert one to see if anything different happens. It's time to start digging deeper to find the problem!

If only Sony would allow us access to schematics. It's either a small package capacitor, something obscured from sight, or a component that syncs the heat away too efficiently for you to detect it. This can be challenging to find.

Great video! Subbed :) Quick question: Does a PS5 need the little LED status board connected to boot up? Because I acquired a CFI-1116A that had a close encounter with an angry "gamer" and the LED board is missing.

If I remember correctly, no. That should be just for the LED.

Is it safe to use freezer spray? Do you wick the moisture away with isopropanol afterwards?

It is non-conductive and yes, I wipe up off after testing.

does power outrage cause this capacitor failures?

Power surge, excessive voltage, and physical damage can all cause them to fail. There are always a few out there that may have a manufacturing flaw and over time other factors, like excessive thermal cycling or voltage stress, may cause them to eventually wear out.

Very likely. You can confirm by removing the motherboard and see if the PSU is still at 0 volts.

@@GoCellPhoneRepair thanks i started on removing psu as i dont wanna remove the mb plating. The psu read 11.95 But it doesnt light up or blink. Do you think the problem is on board. I was thinking of buying a power supply replacement. But it seems i have to send it i. For a board repair

If you get ~12V with the power supply outside of the console but 0 when it's installed then it sounds like an issue on the board. Possibly a short on the 12 Volt rail.
