I very much appreciate a concept of the cross which goes something like this: Jesus took into his own body all of our anger, poison, and addictions, thereby nullifying their power over us and healing us. His resurrection is a securing of the blessed exchange at the cross, bringing us with Him into heaven now.

I've been hearing a lot of teachings about God not being angry, teachings rejecting penal substitutionary atonement, etc. That's all well and good, but many of us are living day-to-day lives that feel separated from God. We aren't experiencing the promises that seem to be in the Bible. Things like physical healing, great health, financial provision, joy and peace, fellowship with Holy Spirit, etc. I'd like to hear some teachings on how to experience those subjectively.
@GilHodgesPodcast7 ай бұрын
A lot of what we experience actually comes from what we believe. If our foundational beliefs are not in line with a true all-powerful loving God then our experience may not reflect who we truly is. I had to adjust my thinking dramatically. A lot of it has to do with choice. What are you choosing to look at. I had to shift my value system as well as what I chose to dwell on. I have a lot of teachings on this in my choice community on Facebook

@@GilHodgesPodcast Thank you for the fast and thoughtful reply. I've had such difficulty changing the way I think about God because I'm not subjectively experiencing the apparent love that He has for me. I don't feel it's my responsibility to change the way I think about God. I didn't ask to be born, I didn't ask for this world or system to be the way it is, I didn't ask for certain experiences to happen to me, etc. I've trusted God and He didn't pull through. I've begged for His help and He didn't answer my prayers. I don't see why God can't just make Himself known to me, and communicate with me in a way I can easily discern. I feel like I have to do all the work to establish a relationship with God and to change the way I perceive Him. I don't believe it's a child's job to establish a relationship with his father. It's the other way around! But Christianity puts all the responsibility onto us because God can't have any faults. But maybe God isn't as loving as we're told He is 🤷🏽♂️

@@WheelEstate Ah! I feel for you. I went through a season years ago where I decided I'd rather believe there is no God than to believe there is a God that hates me as much as I believed He did. It was through that experience and and lesson and many more that I teach on now how to see God from an entirely different perspective. One that I believe is correct but not taught because we get so caught up in our circumstances that we don't see the bigger picture. Once I began to shift, my entire life shifted. I spent 40 years in chronic depression. I've been completely free now for over 8 years. The way we view life makes all the difference in the universe.

Why must we wait to die to allow the fire of love to transform us? Jesus is the access door not death. Why aren't we believing to be immortal?
@jameszaleta11057 ай бұрын
We shouldn't but we do Because the church has preached a gospel Of, first you do then God does message. It told us we're not really transformed until we get to heaven. Which causes us to live out our entire life, in fear and trembling, never knowing for certain that we've made it, because we never ever see ourselves as, “good enough.” Jesus at His death and resurrection established the new covenant. The old covenant established with Moses required death for the transgressors. The new covenant established with "not my people," unbelievers, requires them to live forever. Under Adam All die, Even so in Christ ALL shall be made alive. 1 Cor15:2 Do for others what you want them to do for you. See all as family and as bonified members of the Kingdom of God. Proclaim what Jesus has done, not what they need to do.

My friend - you can't cherry pick like that. Paul goes on to describe exactly how the "wrath of God" manifests in that same chapter - three times he writes that God _gives people over_ or _gives them up_ to their sin. That's what his "wrath" looks like in action. If sin is what's already killing us, God doesn't need to do anything more than give us over to it, right? But He loves us enough to let us walk away! Per the parable of the prodigal son, we always hope that the "giving over" is a wake-up call, that people will realize they're in the pig pen and that the Father is seeking them and waiting for their return with open arms. You don't heal an addict by beating the addiction out of someone - sometimes the path to recovery starts with them being given over to it and hitting rock bottom so the healing process starts. Love is the only cure for sinners.

Great talk, I think Jesus was critical of the Torah… it wasn’t perfect in his sight. I think he would be similarly critical of some of Paul’s writings. I see the fear and evil in the bible as a learning… for sifting through the wheat vs the weeds. 37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. 40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.

@@GilHodgesPodcast I have the view that the bible is an immoral thug, teh opposite of love, although he claims to be--much like a narcissist. I have that view because I have read the entire bible from Genesis to Revelation many times, and because I know my intellect and logic and deduction work well--I graduated magns cum laude with a Literature degree--so i know my reading comprehension and powers of reason are sound. But I am definitely pleased when people like you use their moral compass, brain, and heart to toss so much, so many verses, chapters and passages that absolutely show god to be cruel, vindictive, murderous, and plain evil. I much prefer people's constructed version of the Bible. Your creation of god is far more kind and loving, but it is not an accurate reflection of the texts.
