You forgot to add the hypnotic Border Collie stare. I bred, raised, and trained Border Collies, and I've seen a single dog stare down a fully grown Hereford bull who didn't want to go where she was herding him to. After about two minutes of the staring contest, he gave up and trotted meekly to the gate.

Oh yes the stare! My Amstaff was attacked by a border collie when he was a puppy. (The border collie’s owner’s fault: that poor dog was rarely ever taken out, didn’t get enough exercise and was improperly socialised; no wonder that poor animal was as mad as they come) As a result of this attack he’s never quite relaxed around border collies, especially when they stare. He’ll only stop tensing up when he’s 100% certain I’ve seen the border collie and am in control of the situation.

I have a BC mix and she does it whenever she sees other animals. It’s definitely something. She also bites the heel of my shoes if she wants me to run or play with her, which I’ve read is another BC trait.

@@oddda5956 She's herding you! Border Collies work by gently nipping at the heels of livestock to get them moving and then again if they aren't following the herd. My BC did this to my sister and myself when we were younger... it's hilarious to realize you're getting herded.

When my parents bought their farm they got a border collie in with the deal. He was hilarious. He was hell on wheels vs anything four legged. 3AM on a summer night and a rabbit in the garden? We were all awake. But never expect him to guard the house. Nope. Anyone and everyone could drive up the lane and he would be "Oh! Two-legs! Welcome to our farm! Let me show you where the unlocked front door is! So nice to see you! Have a nice visit!"

We had a border collie and black lab mix, and she was the sweetest dog. She loved babies, she would just sit next to me when I was holding our firstborn, and just want to cuddle, and once he was big enough to be walking around, she'd lay on the floor next to him so he could climb all over her. Like, actively avoid the kid-free areas because having her ears pulled on and eyes accidentally jabbed was worth having the baby on her (we trued to prevent him hurting her, of course, but accidents happen). She knew exactly where the yard boundaries were, and we could have her off leash in our open yard and she wouldn't cross her boundaries. She knew exactly where the kids were supposed to be in the yard, and would herd them with her body to keep them where they were supposed to be. Sadly, we lost her at 7 years old to surprise health issues.

Sounds so much like Roots, my old American Staffordshire female. Looked like Petey from the Lil Rascals, and *loved* kids so much. On walks, if she saw a kid coming, she'd lie down on the grass and wait. She had terrible arthritis, but all she wanted was for them to climb all over her and love her. I adopted her as an adult, and she also had surprise health issues a year or so later (a condition called ITP), so I lost her around the same age you lost yours. Heartbreaking! 💔

Feel this. I had the most friendly chow chow as a teen. Just lost her earlier this year at 14. She didn't necessarily love kids but I'd bribe her for trunk or treat by giving the youngest kids nuggets to offer her for pets. (Her bane was anyone under six.) She was SO GENTLE with fingers of all sizes and very polite and would give anyone kisses. I got 13.5 years with her and had to make the call for her this year. Hardest thing I've ever done. I had her for half of my life and I'm devastated I don't wake up to see her fluffy face anymore. Got a new pup with a similar personality, a husky-apbt mix, who just adores any kid she sees.

My sister had a Border Collie, he was so smart. Bandit was a grand champion in agility and figured out little things that annoyed each of the humans he was regularly around, and he would do that one thing to drive you nuts. Only when you were around, and only to you. Cause he enjoyed messing with people. Except my sister, he loved her beyond reason. She took out the chicken, put it in a pile, then the roo shoulder, sat it aside, and pulled out the pork leaving the minced beef in the bowl. Then she ate each pile one by one. lol And as far as intelligence, when she was 9 weeks old I put a bell by the back door to start house training her. As soon as I saw her sitting by the door wanting to go out, I picked her up and gently booped the bell with her nose then praised her and let her out. I saw this combination the other day but it was a long hair with the same marking pattern of a collie but where the black areas usually are on a border collie it had that kinda brindle colour you see on shepherds

I'll always remember when we were little, the collie would herd me, my sister, one of the cats, and a German pointer upstairs to listen to our parents read a book, she didn't understand the book, no one ever said we needed to, but our parents brought us up to listen and she decided this was what must happen.

Ours got into a petting zoo one day. Completely untrained, but they still ended up in a small circle in the middle of the pen. He did the same thing with a group of elderly people. Just decided they were too scattered and went about organising them. They never felt threatened, but still did what he wanted. Really, as much as he had a good life, he was wasted on us. Some farmer somewhere was missing out on a first class worker. He'd have loved every minute of that life.

actually Border collies have an intimidating stare. The crouching is also body language for attack in most wild animals.

you forgot to add how, given enough land, they make their own athletic running tracks. My sister lived on 10 acres, and her BC made its own circular running track around the perimeter of the property and then trained on it twice a day. Doubling up as Border Patrol, LOL.with no human prompting whatsoever. And another thing, they love to round up little kids into a corner.

This skit had everything! The nihilist attitude about humans. The religious-evolutionary crossover where God's plan requires three invasions and mixing breeds from distant lands. The nihilist attitude toward unchanging religious doctrine. The valley girl energy of God and Angel. The sprinkling of actual border collie facts was just the icing on this amazing social commentary cake.

A dairyman milked 4 different breeds of cows. Each morning he'd separate them into separate pens before moving them into the milking parlor. His Border Collie watched him do it once. The next morning, he went out and the cows were already separated by breed into separate pens. The dog was sitting there quite proud of himself.

My mom rescued a border collie mix before my brother and I were born. The dog didn’t really like us kids. She’d growl if we ever got too close to her. However, she would still herd us back to mom if we got too far away from her.
