Belmont comes from the French words “belle” and “mont” which literally mean “beautiful mountains”, respectively. This tidbit confirms that the Belmont clan originated from France (the game mentions they were surrounded by these and thus the reason for the name). Even the Netflix CV show kept this and mentioned Belmonts are from France.

Late on the punch but there's also a reference to real life: In Japan the Belmonts are known as Belmondo, which is the surname of an actor, Jean-Paul Belmondo. I would say it was a coincidence but there were a Christopher Bee in the credits on the first Castlevania IIRC so there was a joke in there somewhere.

Please keep going and makes this a full series. Lords of Shadow has one of my favorite video-game soundtracks. It does a really good job of going between epic chill while you are exploring and epic hype while you are fighting. -Also did you know the spider level is a whole reference to Ocarina of Time? The scroll in the earlier level talks about going into the 'sacred Dekuh tree' which is the big central tree stump that you jump into, where you then fight a bunch of giant spiders that, by the way, have skull patterns on their abdomens like Skulltula's.

The final boss music of this game 'Final Confrontation' actually has the old Castlevania 3 theme Beginnings in it near the end which I marked out when I heard it in game. Real Epic

This game has a handful of CV tunes for sure but none are of the iconic ones except Vampire Killer in the Music Box level. Lords of Shadow 1 mainly reuses music from CV4 from SNES but no Bloody Tears, the Beginning or any of those. I would definitely like to see you finish this game. Lament of Innocence is still the supreme 3D Castlevania experience. The atmosphere, music, gameplay is all on point for the series, and the secrets give such a great sense of satisfaction.

Kevin Warsaw I respectfully disagree. LoS1 is easily the best 3D Castlevania ever made. But the less said about its sequels the better though.

for one who owns the OST, no, it doesn't not have any orchestral renditions of any castlevania tracks. Castlevania the arcade game, on the other hand, has AMAZING orchestral castlevania game renditions to very popular tracks I even covered some on my VGM podcast.... will post the link if anyone's interested

The side story with the girl from agharta wasn't padding, tbh. It was actually forshadowed by the vision Gabriel had in the lake of oblivion. If you watch both cutscenes side by side, the visual similarities are there

Matt McMuscles not quite “mountaineering”. The Brotherhood’s in France and surrounded by mountains so they gave Gabriel the surname Belmont which comes from the French words “belle” and “mont” which literally mean “beautiful mountains” respectively. He definitely had his full name by the time he was an adult and met his wife. Even the Netflix show pays lip service to the Belmont’s being from France so I guess this is canon everywhere now and not just in the LoS-verse (the meaning behind the Belmont name and them being French at least).
