@@jessicabaker7123 "God is real" How do you know that? Is there any evidence you can show that positively proves the existence of any anthropomorphic deity, much less the God of the Bible? You would need some pretty extraordinary evidence, since everything about your God is impossible based on everything we know about reality. It is not possible for a conscious mind to exist outside of a brain and body to house it, and miracles defy the laws of physics by definition. So it’s not possible for your God to exist, nor could he use magical miracles to manipulate anything even if he did exist. “It’s not brainwashing, it’s faith” Faith is often a belief in things that are impossible according to everything we know about anything at all. Religious beliefs are sacred, meaning that they are never to be questioned or critically examined but must be believed no matter what. Skeptical inquiry is strictly forbidden, and apologetics exists only to obligately rationalize away any criticisms so that they may be dismissed without consideration. In other words, faith assumes its own conclusions, believes impossible nonsense without reason, and defends those beliefs against all reason to the contrary. It can’t help but be wrong to some degree to start with, and any errors will never even be acknowledged, much less sought out or corrected, so that situation can never improve. However wrong it already is is however wrong it will forever be. Faith offers no way to discover the real truth about anything, but it’s a great way to stay wrong forever and never admit it-even to yourself.

I have a parable, since you Christians like parables. Pay attention to it: There was a boy, who grew up in his small town. Now, this town told him all kinds of things. It told him that he was the best artist. It told him that the town's festivals were the most exciting events to take part in, with the best food and drink there is. It told him that seniors retire to live quietly in the county retirement home. It told him that everyone lived in nice little houses happily next to each other. It told him that their religion was the only true religion, and that outsiders were trying to ruin the peace of that town and all the other towns like it. The boy grew up and took all of this for granted--everything the town told him, he took for truth. After graduation, he went to apply to art schools. Every single one turned him down. He wondered to himself why, and then he went online to look at other art for the first time, and to his wonder, saw all the amazing and creative ideas people were sharing, visions he'd never even dreamed possible with art. The art in his small town, and the art that the other small towns like it all shared amongst themselves, seemed so limited in comparison. He moved to the city to study privately, and heard of a grand festival being held and went to it. There was food from all over the world, flowers and trees from all over the world, dancers, colorful lights and fireworks, displays and performances the likes of which he'd never seen. The festivals in his small town, and those he traveled to the other towns to perform in, were all the same. He kept asking himself why this was. Why the art was the same and the festivals were the same. And there were older people at these festivals! They didn't live in retirement homes--they were out, dining and enjoying themselves, sharing stories with the younger generations, even giving amazing musical performances and doing amazing art well into their senior years, never becoming less passionate or feeling that time had slipped away from them. They were not all the same, struggling, under-stimulated, under-appreciated seniors he had seen in his small town and had heard about in the other towns. Why, though? WHY? The houses had a life to them--some had a long history and were kept the way they were for hundreds of years. Some were designed by the best architectural artists and designers in the world. Some towered above the streets, and some had wonderful murals of heroes and icons and majestic scenes painted all over them. Some weren't as lucky, though, and had weeds growing in them, broken windows, rusted appliances thrown out on the lawn, vandalized fences. His town seemed so perfect with its rows of houses, but then in this place, there were both wonders and miseries. Why? Why did his town have its carbon-copied houses, and why did this place have such amazing places but also miserable ones? He went to one of the ruined-looking houses, to a woman sitting outside. He asked, "I've seen so many wonderful things in this city, so much amazing art and such spectacular festivals with such incredible food and music and sights, people living long, invigorating lives well into their senior years, and places full of character and culture and architectural beauty. But I didn't see this part of the city until now. Why does such an otherwise vibrant place have all of these terrible, out-of-repair houses and crime?" The woman replied, "Because all of these things are the truth." He began to reflect on that. The city hadn't tried to hide the truth from him. It told him he wasn't yet good enough at art. It told him of all the celebrations and cultures of the world. It told him that passion for life and for work didn't stop at retirement. It told him that houses weren't the same and society wasn't the same--that there was extreme inequality in those things. And he thought about what else his little town had told him, and what little towns everywhere were telling others. What were the chances, given all of what he'd experienced, that the religion of these small towns was the truth and not also a delusion? That the outsiders were really trying to ruin the peace and not simply wanting to share with them things from the outside? He asked the woman, "Then why did the town I grew up in hide the truth from me?" She paused a moment, and then replied, "Maybe because the people in that town are afraid to end up like me."

God chose Abraham to be his nation follower. Abraham for years like past 50 never had a son even when he tried and tried, his nephew was the only person he has closest to a son. soon his nephew said he wanted to leave God and Abraham...so he did. even after getting captured and God and Abraham saving his nephew...still refusing to go...and so he still let him, but anyways...Abraham had to wait one more year because his wife will have a son....finally getting one. the first descendant...to be chosen by God is a blessing....and a test. God asked for a sacrifice.....the sacrifice was his son....before Abraham could stab him, he stopped him just in time. he has been put through so many and he did all of it...and he was willing to loose it...why because he loves him! so yes saying no to her that is more like a sacrifice is saying that he loves God and he will loose everything to still have him.

YesWeCantaloupe I think it's because they had so many characters and subplots in the story, it was hard for them to give everything and all the characters the level of backstory they deserved. Rez I loved the movie but I’ll agree that they could’ve done more to add context to the relationship. There’s not a lot about Kara and their relationship so I didn’t really care as much about that relationship not working. Ayesha on the other hand there’s a lot of context about her family and her struggle with them not accepting her, so I was significantly more emotionally invested. Same goes for Martin and his father even though he had a lot less screen time in the movie.

If she really loved him she would've let him stand up for God and admire the purpose God has given him. Nobody should ever be bossing you around in a relationship.
@amethyst74682 жыл бұрын
I don't think she was bossing him around. The way I see it, she raised her very valid concerns to him. He reciprocated by saying that everyone has been urging him to do the same thing. And so, she most likely assumes that that is what he is going to do. Once he made his decision, he didn't tell her about it. And so, she understandably git upset about the fact that he went behind her back. Now obviously both of their communication skills should be improved, but that doesn't mean that anyone is definitely in the wrong.
@sirvincerd93462 жыл бұрын
@@amethyst7468 I see your point too. However I guess my main concern of this scene was that even though he went behind her back, she still should've seen how important this was to him and the love he had for God. If she was truly christian and loved him, she would've let him stand up to the professor.
@amethyst74682 жыл бұрын
@@sirvincerd9346 Yes I see what you mean. And I feel that to truly understand her we have to put ourselves in her shoes. It was established in the movie that she went to this university though she had 2 much better options just to be with josh. She seems like a type A person having planned how the next ten years of her life are going to look like. Now to have that all crushed just because her boyfriend wants to get into a philosophical argument about God's existence, a highly nuanced subject even the greatest minds don't have a set answer to. And even if he wins said argument, chances are he is still going to fail this class because humans have pride and tend to double down especially when put on a pedestal. Now not only will her boyfriend most likely fail this class, but he is also giving it all of his attention, meaning that he is most probably going to fail all of his other classes. That with the fact that I don't belive a God that loves you would want you to jeopardise your entire future for them not to get an ego bruise, I don't think she should be labeled a "fake," "wrong" or "bad" Christian for not wanting him to partake in this debate.
@sirvincerd93462 жыл бұрын
@@amethyst7468 Yeah I can see from that persective too. She planned everything to work out good for both of them, but backfired due to the debate. However what this scene shows us is that if we truly love God, we ought to sacrifice and stand up for what we believe in. For instance if I was asked to sign a paper saying "God doesn't exist" just to get a job, I would deny it because I am a christ follower. I would just look elsewhere, even if I was low on funds. This dude loved God that much to throw his career away, but at the end of the movie he won anyways, inspired others, and the professor was saved before he died in a car wreck.

Jesus and the Apostle Paul warned that If you deny Jesus publicly before men that Jesus will deny you in the presence of God the Father And His Holy Angels. If you are ashamed of him he will be ashamed of you. If you love your wife or family or money or anything more than Jesus, and you do not want to take up your cross and deny yourself then you are not worthy of Jesus. He that is unmarried cares for the things of God and he that is married cares for the things of the world how he may please his wife. If you are a friend of the world you are an enemy of God. Read your scriptures people. This man made the best decision of his life even though it's just a movie. Sean Armstrong I’m a Christian. I would absolutely not support this for several reasons. First, the first amendment guarantees freedom of religion meaning that your right to express your beliefs is generally your own and that includes the right not to be forced to act or speak in conflict with those beliefs. Also, in the Bible it’s said many times that people must *choose to accept god for salvation. If you simply just said you believe when you don’t it doesn’t mean anything and actually might be worse. God gave us free will for a reason even though he knew it could allow people to be led astray or reject him to their detriment because faith in him must be freely chosen by an individual for it to have any meaning.

Because she thinks that Josh needs to prioritize her over everything else because his decisions are affecting their future. The last point we should pray for a spouse that dosen't try to mulniplate others into doing what they want. ALL WAYS SEEK GOD AND HIS WILL
