Well...At least it didn't outright shed bad light with atheism or non believers in general. Judging from your summary, It does seem like its less pandering now and its more focused in telling a story (with faith involved and whatnot) They even have a non religious lawyer actually help the protagonist. Gotta give credit where credit is due at least.

Pastors aren’t celebrities on stages, they have issues behind the scenes as well. Pastors come to a point of continuing or dropping the faith, just like us.
