Fun fact: When Nietzsche proclaimed “God is dead,” he was not declaring that a literal deity had died, but rather pointing out that the concept of God and absolute moral values that religion, especially Christianity, had upheld for centuries were losing their influence in European society.

As someone from the US currently experiencing a major election cycle, the idea of "The Christian Right" in general gaining any kind of prominance scares the crap out of me even if it's in a film. The fact that it's happening in real life and there are people showing signs of the belief that Church and State shouldn't remain seperated is doubly frightening. I'd go deeper into depth, but the trama is that real for me.

You do realize that politicians only pander to their constituents they don't actual implement their policies. For example, when the Heritage Foundation published the ludicrous Project 2025 EVEN the Trump people said, "Are you f'ing NUTS". Remember, all politicians are actors with scripts full of lies. Their objective is to convince the People the Federal government is need in every part of their life. The truth is they do little more than drag us deeper in debt.

I remember when the first film came out, a youth pastor I knew took his student group to see it in theaters, and at the end of the film it encourages all the people to text “God’s not dead” to all of their contacts. When a few of them did just that, they received several replies telling them to bugger off and the like. Furthering a self-fulfilling prophesy of being oh so persecuted for their faith.

I mean the original intent of the Bechdel-Wallace test was to set the minimum bar for there possibly being a lesbian in a movie, before movies were really allowed to openly identify homosexual characters. So with that in mind, two women talking about the Christian Nationalist god would definitely not pass the test, as homosexuality would be a sin to them. EDIT: Assuming they are Christians discussing the deity in positive terms, I guess... If there are two women arguing about the separation of church and state, then it might pass?

I recall seeing Michael Caine on the old Mike Douglas TV talk show here in the US back in the '70s. Mike said something like, '..Michael, you've been in some of the best movies ever, but some of the worst as well. How do you explain that?" Caine replied, 'It's a job. I have a family to feed and bills to pay. If there's a script on my desk, I say yes.' Take the money and run. I can separate the performer from the performance. 😀 Like Emma said, at least he (Ray WIse) plays the good guy in this. Per Christianity (I was a devout believer until age 20/now a humanist): Jesus taught followers to not become involved in politics or earthly government. Satan tempted him with rulership over nations and Jesus rejected it. Jesus taught his followers to separate politics from faith ("render unto Caesar" -- pay taxes, etc -- but keep faith in God). Christians are not to seek temporal earthly power, which corrupts, but God's Kingdom, which is eternal. Christians are not to be like progressives (me!) who seek to build human movements/governments to create justice but to wait on Jesus to return and establish the Kingdom of God. You are not to be impatient and "do it yourself" but to wait on the Lord faithfully. "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Mark 8:36 I'm astounded how Christians no longer ask themselves: WWJD? Now its Trump/MAGA/power and money.

They fought in courts to have the freedom to not participate in daily brainwashing, I mean reciting the pledge of allegiance You can't serve two masters. Too many Christians seem to forget it. They allow earthly politics influence their religion. Nothing about New Testament even suggests that you should be against immigration. The only arguments I hear are secular.
